RECAP: R&M Recycling Kids Night at Flat Rock!

RECAP: R&M Recycling Kids Night at Flat Rock!

Saturday, June 24th -- R&M Recycling Kids Night at Flat Rock Speedway on Saturday Night was a beautiful one, with a wide number of events creating some great moments on and off the track. This was UAW Local 3000 Night as well as a big night for Fraza guests, who came to the track with a big crowd for the second year in a row for their team.

Kids under 12 were admitted free, and received a free hot dog at the track. This is one of two kids night specials at Flat Rock Speedway - the next one will be coming on Friday, August 4th at 7:30 PM.

In qualifying, the fastest time in the DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock division would be set by Kenyon Knight, who qualified with a lap of 13.413 seconds. He would out-qualify Rob Moore Jr by .092 seconds.

In the Midwest Classic Racers Dwarf Series, Matt Kemp would take the fastest time as the only driver to qualify with a lap under 13 seconds. He would take a fast time of 12.756 seconds. Troy Hoffman would qualify in second place.

In the Safety Kleen Enduro 250 division, Dale Buttrey would take the fastest time with a lap of 14.815 seconds over Troy Brehmer and defending race winner Brad Turner, who would qualify in third place.

DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks

Jeremy Vanderhoof got the night started off with a victory in the Flat Rock Speedway DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks division. The 25-car field would be marred by incidents throughout the race, with cautions whittling the 25-car field down to just 11 drivers on the lead lap by the end of the race. This came after a difficult start to the afternoon with another multi-car incident also occurring in the heat races.

Vanderhoof would swing around the outside of Austin McKee on lap one and maintain the lead for the rest of the night, holding the lead through multiple cautions as well as some exciting racing throughout the pack. Johnny Rangel would keep the leader honest throughout the race, getting by Kenyon Knight on lap 18 and closing in on Vanderhoof in the final dash to the checkers.

In turns 3 and 4, Rangel would be afforded a tight opportunity to make a move in lapped traffic, pulling alongside Vanderhoof out of turn 4 coming to the checkers. Vanderhoof would narrowly take the victory by half of a car length, taking an exciting win - his second of the season thus far. Vanderhoof has gotten to a very strong start to the season so far at Flat Rock, taking a pair of wins in both the R&M Recycling Figure 8 division as well as the DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock division in the first half of the season, good enough to take the points lead in each division as we head into the holiday break for Flat Rock Speedway.

Finishing after the front two of Vanderhoof and Rangle came Kenyon Knight in third place, proceeded by Rob Moore Jr and Landon Schuster closing out the top five.

Jeremy Cronenwett in the #11X came home in sixth followed by Ron Allen. Jim Froling, Caleb Barron, and Ian Jezylo in the #00 would close out the top ten.

The DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks division will return on July 8th with a 50 lap feature as a part of the Royal Truck & Trailers TRIPLE 50’s! Click below for more information.

Midwest Classic Racer Dwarf Cars

Matt Kemp won his third consecutive MCR Dwarf Cars feature at Flat Rock Speedway, taking a close win over Troy Hoffman in a big feature.

Kemp would pass Hoffman for the lead on lap 12, holding the lead until the checkered flag.

Hoffman would finish in second place ahead of Dave Wylie in third. Steve Shlater Jr would come in fourth, and Keith Barker II would complete the top five.

Ed Laroe would finish in sixth ahead of two very familiar names to FLat Rock Speedway - Vaugh Chambless would come in 7th, and Steve Chartrand would finish in eighth after driving with the flag during the evening’s pre-race ceremonies.

Cei Bowen and Nicole Olmstead would finish out the top ten.

Safety Kleen Enduro 250

Derrick Sheppard dominated the Safety Kleen Enduro 250 feature at Flat Rock Speedway, taking a convincing win by almost a FULL LAP en route to a wild win at the speedway.

Sheppard took the lead on lap 30 of the 250 lap feature, and didn’t look back on the way to a convincing win. Sheppard would win with a margin of victory of almost 20 seconds over Robb Remick, who came home in second place just a few car lengths ahead of the feature winner. Justin Chamberlin would finish third as the first car one lap down, followed by Rayce Metdepenningen and Cody Remick finishing out the top five.

Troy Brehmer would take sixth place over fast qualifier Dale Buttrey in seventh. Mike Young would take 8th, followed by Nathan Sprotberry and Trevor Buttrey to complete the top ten.

Sheppard is looking to take his third division championship this season. This would tie the all-time Enduro 250 division championship of three with Robb Remick, the only driver with three championships so far.

The Safety Kleen Enduro Division will return on Saturday, July 15th as a part of Hungry Howie's Pizza Night! Learn more about this night of action and more by clicking below.
