SCHOOL BUSES, BOATS, LATE MODELS, FIGURE 8’S

(Flat Rock, MI—June 13, 2015): Despite nearly 3 inches of rain overnight and in the early morning hours, Flat Rock Speedway was ready to go for Saturday’s Lakeshore Utility Trailer Sales School Bus Figure 8 races. A large crowd ventured to the track for the night of fun and entertainment.

The School Bus Figure 8 race highlighted the action, with Kyle Worley scoring the win. A very wet infield area and portions of the Figure 8 track were quite slick, which left the bus drivers slipping and sliding around the speedway. Jack Franzil, Terry Smith, Scott Apperson, Robbie Loving, Chris Benson and Dennis Whisman trailed the winner. Bus sponsors included Lakeshore Utility Trailer Sales, Budget Tire, Jani-King, A & M Transmission, Hopculture, LLC, Woodhaven Moose Lodge and Sportway Batting Cages and Go-Karts.

The ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Models were in action with a 50 lap feature race on the ¼ mile paved oval. Early leader Derek Wiley gave way to Justin Schroeder and Justin sailed to the victory. Several yellow flags slowed the action throughout the contest. Schroeder survived several double-file restarts and pressure from Stan Yee Jr to take the victory. Frankie Jiovani slipped under Yee in the late stages to grab second, Yee Jr. was third, Dennis Strickland fourth and Steve Cronenwett Jr. fifth, followed by Terry Bogusz, Craig Everage, Corey Duane, Joe Hawes and Chris Benson. Schroeder, Bogusz and Jimmy Ward Jr. were the heat race winners. Strickland set fast time for the 23 car field with a lap of 11:806.

Robbie Loving was the third and final leader of the 20 lap ARCA Praxair Figure 8 feature race, snaring the lead from Parker Wade on his way to the checkered flag. Randy Roberts was the initial leader until he spun in turn 2 of the Figure 8 course after hitting some water. The veteran Wade was now in command, and Parker ran strong out front until Loving ran him down, slid by and sailed to the checkered flag. Jeremy Miller also got by Wade to take second spot, Wade’s strong run gave him third, Billy Earley was fourth and Greg Studt fifth. Dennis Whisman, Scott Apperson, Roberts, David Katafiasz and Jimmy Thiel completed the top ten finishers. Loving and Dennis Whisman Jr. were the heat race winners, with the young Whisman’s win his first-ever checkered flag.   The Fastime Racing Engines and Parts quick time award went to Studt with a lap of 21:120.

Billy Earley captured the Boat Figure 8 race over John Lambert, Ethen Lambert, Jack Franzil and Bill Carberry. The field dodged a couple of boats that slipped off their trailers and slid across the racing surface!

Saturday, June 20 at Flat Rock Speedway the ARCA Aramark Sportsman cars will make their first appearance of the season for a 50 lap contest. The division competes at Toledo Speedway, Flat Rock’s sister track. The Flat Rock race is a point race and counts towards the Sportsman championship battle. The Praxair Figure 8’s are also in action, and the evening will be capped off with 2 fun races---the Flag Pole Race and the Road Rage race.

The Flag Pole event will have 2 poles on the track—one in the middle of the front stretch and the other in the backstretch. The drivers must go around each pole every lap of the event, causing for some serious rush-hour type traffic! And the road rage race requires the pack of cars to follow the pace truck, wherever it goes! When the lights go out on the pace truck, it’s a mad dash to the checkered flag!

The pit area will open at 3, practice begins at 4:30, time trials are at 5:45 and racing begins at 7 p.m. The front gates will also open at 4:30 p.m.
