Flat Rock Wraps Up '08 Season

Flat Rock, MI  (10-4-08)-- A sunshine-filled Saturday afternoon greeted fans and competitors for the final race of the 2008 season at Flat Rock Speedway.  The “Level Pebble Shootout” winners were Shawn Bershback (4 Cylinders), Dave Arnold Jr. (Toledo Factory Stocks) and Tristan Dupuis. (Enduro cars).

239.102.jpgShawn and his brother, Mike, battled for over 40 laps for the win in the 50 lap 4 Cylinder main event.  Mike pressured his brother from the high groove and on the bottom of the track, staying glued to his bumper for much of the event.  Ray McClure joined the lead duo late in the event to battle for the win but Shawn held on for the win over Mike, McClure, Paul Garcia, Michael Marlow, Perry Marlow, Tony Thomas and Josh Remick.  Mike Bersback set fast time at 15:397.

239.155.jpg2008 Toledo champ Dave Arnold Jr. took the lead from Mike Hassen after a great side by side battle on his way to victory in the 50 lap Toledo Factory Stock feature race.  Jesse Carillo zipped into the lead at the green flag with Hassen in second spot.  Arnold Jr., the fast qualifier at 14:022, joined the battle for the lead after lap 15.  Carillo slipped just a bit entering the front straight, as Hassen shot by for the lead.  It was brief, however, as Arnold Jr. sailed by on the outside lane and stayed there the remainder of the event.  Eric Huston made a late race charge (at the wheel of Cory McCaughey’s #36) to grab second at the finish.  Hassen was third, Brian Ringger was fourth and Carillo fifth, followed by Tim Shine, Landon Schuster, Alan Bland Sr., Kevin Little, Craig Osenbaugh and Don Cox.

A complete inversion of the 26 car Enduro car field for their 50 lap contest was filled with yellow flags.  Coming from 24th spot to the front quickly, Tristan Dupuis motored on to grab the victory.  Tristan had company as Dave Arnold Jr., doing double duty, stayed with the fleet Dupuis for most of the event.  Arnold, the fastest of 28 cars at 14:118, patiently worked his way to the front while Dupuis moved to the number one spot by lap 10.  At the stripe it was Dupuis with a 2 car length lead over Arnold Jr., with Jeff Metdepenningen third, Eric Huston fourth and Jeff Maran fifth.  Scot Bunge, Rick Bennett, Rick Johnson, Bob Hochradel and Derrick Sheppard completed the top ten finishers.

The wives/mechanics races were also held, with the 4 Cylinder win going to Kyle Ball over a last-lap challenge from Stacy Remick.  Judy LeFevere and Lora Marlow were third and fourth.  Chris Metdepennigen held back a great outside groove move by Norm Maran to win the Stock Car mechanics 8 lap event.

The track’s annual award banquet is set for Friday evening, November 7 at the Crystal Gardens in Southgate, MI.  Tickets are now on sale by calling the track office at 734-782-2480.
