Local Hockey Legend Nick Vitucci to Race at Flat Rock Speedway Friday Night

FLAT ROCK MI (8-28-08)--Local hockey legend Nick Vitucci, a member of the ECHL Hall of Fame, will make his auto racing debut at Flat Rock Speedway on Friday Night. Vitucci will compete in Flat Rock Speedway's popular David's Jewelry 4-Cylinder division as part of the track's Aquafina Enduro 250 night.

Vitucci was head coach of the Toledo Storm from 2003-07 and will serve as head coach of the Toledo Walleye when the team debuts in October, 2009 at the new Lucas County Downtown Arena in Toledo.  The 40-year-old Temperance, Michigan, resident has won a record five ECHL championships, four as a player and one as an assistant coach, and has been involved with the ECHL as a player and coach every season since the league's inception.

Named the post-season Most Valuable Player twice, Vitucci played 14 seasons and is the career leader among goaltenders in games (479), minutes (27,291) and wins (265) for both the regular season and the postseason. Vitucci played in two ECHL All-Star Games and was named First Team All-ECHL in 1991-92 and 1997-98.

Vitucci is a lifelong auto racing enthusiast, having attended races as a child with his father in his native Ontario, as well as Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan. His crew chief for Friday's race will be Brian Norton, who has more than 50 ARCA Street Stock feature wins at Flat Rock Speedway.

Flat Rock Speedway is a .25-mile paved, semi-banked oval located on Telegraph Road (US 24), five minutes from both I-75 and I-275 and just 30 minutes north of Toledo. The Friday evening August 29th Aquafina Enduro 250 night serves as an enhancement to the track's weekly Saturday night racing card.
