Moran Chevy/Stan Yee Memorial 150 Brings Additional Entries

FLAT ROCK, MI (6-16-2008)--  The upcoming Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 for the ARCA Late Models, set for this Saturday, June 21, has drawn several drivers that have yet to compete at Flat Rock Speedway this season.  A pair of former champions, 4-time king Rick Knowles and 2-time champ Dick Barker, have both filed early entries for the biggest race of the year at the ¼ mile paved oval, both in purse money and distance.

moranchevy2.jpgKnowles will pilot Stan Yee Jr.’s second car for the all-green flag race.  The 1998-2001 Flat Rock Late Model champ, the only Late Model driver other than Joy Fair to collect 4 titles in a row (1969-1972), has 22 feature wins to his credit, good for 8th on the all-time win list at “The Rock”.  Barker, who collected his titles back in 1978 and 1980, has 20 wins on his Flat Rock resume (good for 9th-all time wins, tied with Steve Lee) and will be making his first appearance of the year at the track.  A new car is in the works for Barker, but the team will compete in its other machine this Saturday night.

Other drivers who have entered include 2006 track champ and 2006 Moran Chevy 150 race winner Paul Pelletier and 3-time track champ Steve Bunge, along with Jeff MacZink.  The event does not demand an early entry, but all indications are that a field of close to 30 cars will make the trip to Flat Rock for this event.  Current point leader Eric Lee is a sure entry among the Flat Rock regulars.  The speedway has averaged 24 cars per night for the division so far in 2008.

The Moran Chevrolet 150 lap contest will also honor Stan Yee Sr., who passed away May 18.  Yee was a car owner for over 40 years with ARCA.  The race will now award $2533 to the winner, and each position of the purse money will end in 33.

Thanks to several Flat Rock Speedway sponsors and the Yee family and friends, the Fast Qualifier will receive $333, and, the leader of lap 33 will also walk away with an additional $333.  The leader of lap 133 will also receive a $333 bonus.  The first driver out of the race will also be awarded an additional $133.  Duane and Kim Copeland, Giles Auto Body, Sterling Printing and Graphics and EELS Corporation have stepped forward to support the event.  A driver, should he sweep the night, could take home over $3500 in prize money.

An open practice is scheduled for Wednesday, June 18 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Flat Rock.  All race cars of any class are welcome.  The pit area will open at 4 Wednesday.

Saturday’s timetable has the pits opening at 1:30, with the first half-hour of practice reserved for the Late Models, beginning at 3 p.m.  Time trials begin at 5 and racing begins at 7 p.m.

Entries are now available and may be downloaded from www.flatrockspeedway.com or call the track at 734-782-2480.  The June 21 event will also feature the Flat Rock Figure 8 and Street Stocks as part of the race card.
