Local Driver RJ Cornett to Tackle Outlaw SuperModifieds During Flat Rock Grand Prix
Local driver RJ Cornett, who is a regular competitor in the ARCA Moran Chevrolet Outlaw Super Late Model division, will tackle a new challenge on Saturday as he will compete with the 350 Outlaw SuperModified Series during the Flat Rock Grand Prix at Flat Rock Speedway.
Cornett, 18, a star football player who will graduate from Whiteford High School in Ottawa Lake on Thursday, just two days before he straps into the open-wheel winged beast for the first time on Saturday night. After starting his racing career in go-karts and dirt track trucks, he is in his second year of ARCA outlaw super late model competition at the quarter-mile oval. The track is located on Telegraph Road about 20 miles south of downtown Detroit, site of this weekend's NTT IndyCar Series Detroit Grand Prix. Cornett's father Royce is fifth all-time with 28 career late model wins at Flat Rock Speedway and is a two-time track champion.
