Remembering Jerry Lee

Jerry Lee, who drove his familiar #31 in the ARCA Figure-8 division at Flat Rock and Toledo Speedway to feature wins at both tracks from the 1990s through 2012, passed away Sunday Jan. 29, 2023 at the age of 53.

Jerry Lee was part of an ARCA Figure-8 racing family now in its 3rd generation. His father Jerry Lee Sr. drove at Flat Rock and Toledo Speedway, starting a family tradition that saw his sons Jerry and Richie Lee, as well as Jerry’s son Jakob Lee, all become winners on the figure-8 track. Jerry Lee, whose figure-8 driving nickname was “The General”, was an ARCA Figure-8 feature winner at Toledo, but experienced his greatest success at Flat Rock, where he earned 10 feature wins, finished 5th in points in 2002 and was championship runnerup finishing 2nd in points in 2004 and 2005.

Jerry, his brother Rich and son Jakob all worked in the family business Affordable Transmissions in Taylor, which became a track sponsor in addition to sponsoring several race teams at Flat Rock. Jerry is also survived by his wife Karrie Lee.


Visitation for Jerry will be held on Friday, February 3, from 2-8pm with funeral service Saturday, February 4, at 10am at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 9800 Telegraph Rd., Taylor MI 48180, (313) 291-0900, www.howepeterson.com. Burial will be at Cherry Hill Cemetery.
