HEAT, THEN RAIN FLOODS FLAT ROCK

HEAT, THEN RAIN FLOODS FLAT ROCK

The extreme heat warning for our area brought on the postponement of Saturday’s July 20 show at Flat Rock Speedway. Track officials made the announcement around 12:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. If that wasn’t enough, Mother Nature slammed the track and surrounding communities with nearly 5 inches of rain in about 2 hours around 4:30 p.m. Friday, complete with wind, lightning and thunder.

Port Creek, which carries the drainage from the track out to Lake Erie, overflowed its banks to the extent the water pushed back through the ditches along Telegraph Road in front of the track, running south to north, flooding the track pump station and Newburg Road, which runs on the south end of the track property and shutting down the pumps.

While the track pump system has been operating very well since the installation of a new pump 2 seasons ago, 5 inches of rain in 2 hours was the winner this weekend….along with the heat. See you next Saturday night.

(The photos of the infield were taken at 8 a.m. Saturday morning. The parking lot photo was taken at 8 p.m. Friday night).
