BARRON ROARS TO FIRST-EVER FLAT ROCK WIN

BARRON ROARS TO FIRST-EVER FLAT ROCK WIN

Flat Rock, MI—May 18, 2019: Caleb Barron grew up watching and crewing for his late grandfather, Bob Rae, as a youngster at Flat Rock Speedway. Several years ago, with Bob at his side, Caleb and his brother, Collin, took over the driving duties of the #103. Bob has passed on, but he was certainly smiling down on his grandson Saturday night, as Caleb edged out Greg Studt and Rob Randa to win the ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock A Main 25 lap feature.

Ian Jezylo, Billy Earley, Robb Remick and Joel Smith also visited the Monroe Asphalt Winner’s Circle on Kid’s Night at the track. All kids to age 12 were admitted free to the grounds and also received a free hot dog.

The field of Street Stocks at “The Rock” is very tough already this season. Fast qualifier Guy Fire (13:258), pulled an 11 for the inversion, putting Caleb on the pole. Barron motored out front at the drop of the green flag and stayed there for the entire 25 lap distance, while the action behind the leader heated up. Greg Studt and Rob Randa began to close in on Barron as the laps wound down, but Caleb held on, setting up an emotional victory lane celebration with his family and crew. Studt ended up second, Randa was third, Clarity Patton fourth and Ethan Stadniczuk fifth, followed by Scott Selmi, Kyle Worley, Fire, David Liaeff and Arnold Kirsch.

Ian Jezylo grabbed his second win in 3 tries with a victory in the 15 lap DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock B Main contest. Ian started at the back of the pack and worked his way to the front to take the lead and the win over LJ Farmer, Gary Navarre, Rich Abel, Adam Jezylo, Leroy Farmer, Taylor Papineau and Justin Peterman. Peterman pounded the turn 3 wall in the event, resulting in heavy damage to his machine, while he was ok.

Navarre led the B field in qualifying at 14:198. Patton, Worley, Chris Diovardi and LJ Farmer took the heat race wins.

Billy Earley returned to action after a week off and picked up the win in the 20 lap ARCA Victory Lane Quick Oil Change Figure 8 feature race. Jeremy Vanderhoof, who encountered engine woes in practice, jumped behind the wheel of his cousin James’ machine and took second, with Dennis Whisman Jr. third, Joe Vanderhoof fourth and Dennis Whisman fifth. Whisman and Ethen Lambert tangled at the intersection, sending both cars spinning and then continuing on. Dave Lambert, Ethen Lambert and Stephanie Bradley were next in line at the finish. Earley set quick time at 20:665, with Joe Vanderhoof taking the heat win.

3-time champion Robb Remick pulled away in the late going to score the win in The Vault Antiques and Treasures 250 lap Enduro race. Matt Ringger, Ed Case, Jacob Thomas (with a great run), Rick Bennett, Kyle Metdepenningen, Cody Remick, Nathan Sprotberry, Troy Brehmer and Dillon Zalenski rounded out the top 10 finishers in the 25 car starting field. Metdepenningen set quick time at 13:842, a track record for the Enduro class.

Joel Smith battled to win the Bandolero feature over Killian McMahon.
