REMEMBERING TERRY MCKAY

Robert “Terry” McKay, (pictured, center) long time ARCA crew member for 1988 ARCA Menards Series champion Tracy Leslie and ARCA Menards Series race winner Billy Leslie, died unexpectedly March 13 at the age of 63. McKay was a fixture on Leslie’s race team at Mt. Clemens Race Track, Flat Rock and Toledo Speedways, at major late model racing events around the midwest and in the ARCA Menards Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series. McKay was part of Leslie’s nine ARCA victories and championship, along with race team members including Larry LaMay, Don Biederman, Rick McColl, Chuck Carroll, Robin Metdepenningen, Bob Shovlin and Lee Leslie. Tracy Leslie went on to a successful career in the NASCAR Xfinity Series driving Ron Parker’s Detroit Gasket #72 with McKay alongside. McKay, who resided in Redford Michigan, was employed at Leslie Tire and continued to attend races and visit in the pit area several times annually at Flat Rock and Toledo.

Terry McKay is survived by wife Sharon; mother Kathryn; brother James Ernest; sisters-in-law Mary Olson, Sue (Michael) Dunn, Pat (Dave) Nelson, Kathy (Sid) Wells.

Visitation will take place Sunday March 17 from 3-9pm and Monday March 18 from 10:30-11am, with funeral services Monday March 18 at 11am, all at the Fred Wood Funeral Home-Rice Chapel, 36100 Five Mile Road, Livonia Michigan 48154 (734) 464-8060.
