RAIN DOESN’T STOP FLAT ROCK ACTION

RAIN DOESN’T STOP FLAT ROCK ACTION

Flat Rock, MI—August 11, 2018: The four letter word rain once again visited Flat Rock Speedway on Saturday, which has been pretty much the story of the season. With storms around the area, things were looking dim as qualifying hit the track. Rain fell for about 20 minutes and the storms missed the speedway. The surface was dried and the show resumed, pushing the start of the UAW Local 3000 Kids Night back about 50 minutes. A good crowd turned out to see a great night of entertainment!

17 year old Ethan Stadniczuk captured the Monroe News 250 lap Enduro, Grant Hedges took the win in the ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock A Main, Rich Abel notched his first win of the season in the Street Stock B Main and Jeremy Vanderhoof scored the win in the ARCA Victory Lane Quick Oil Change Figure 8 feature. Dave Lambert capped the night off with the Boat Figure 8 win. Ed Schroeder of UAW Local 3000 presented the trophies in the Monroe Asphalt Winner’s Circle.

The Monroe News Enduro race #4 of the season saw 22 cars take the green flag. At lap 160, 20 cars remained on the track! The 250 lap event has become a very challenging race and that was quite evident as 18 took the checkered flag. Youngster Ethan Stadniczuk grabbed the lead just before the lap 100 mark and sailed to his first Enduro win of his career. Ethan also won the ARCA Factory Stock race Friday night at Toledo, making for a great weekend. He dedicated the win to his grandmother, Shelley, who passed away last week. Robb Remick and Kyle Metdepenningen took turns leading the race in the early stages, which ran the entire distance under the green flag. Stadniczuk stretched his lead and moved in and out of traffic flawlessly as he zipped to the win over Derrick Sheppard, also on the lead lap. Third was Rick Bennett, fourth was Remick and fifth went to Metdepenningen, followed by Brian Ringger, Dave Bennett, Troy Brehmer, Justin Chamberlin and Cody Remick. Ethan also posted the quick time in qualifications with a lap of 13:985. The final Enduro race of the season is Saturday, September 8.

New father Grant Hedges edged out Guy Fire to win his second race of the year in the 25 lap ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock A Main event. The duo ran 1-2 the entire distance. The man on the move was Greg Studt, who started 8th. Greg got boxed in early, but broke loose with 10 to go, getting to the bumper of Ray Morneau Jr. in the battle for third. Hedges held on at the stripe to win over Fire, Morneau, Studt, Rob Moore Jr., Clarity Patton, Jeff Metdepenningen, David Liaeff, Jeff Luttermoser and Scot Bunge.

Veteran Rich Abel took the lead on lap 4 from rookie Gary Navarre and then held off a late bid by another rookie, L.J. Farmer, to win his first feature of the year in the 15 lap Street Stock B Main race. Abel, a former champion for the B class, took the win over Farmer, Jerry Farmer (L.J.’s father), Wilburn Parks, Lonnie York, Navarre, Dillon Zalenski, Ian Jezylo, Les Syring and Vaughn Chambless. Gary Calhoun posted his first-ever fast time in the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts qualifying with a lap of 13:570 to lead the 30 car field. Parks led the B field with a lap of 14:266. Heat race winners were Hedges, Liaeff, Anthony Camilli and Jerry Farmer. The Tribute to Bob Rae pursuit race was a thriller as Clarity Patton topped Studt, Fire, Morneau Jr., Calhoun, Moore Jr. and Caleb Barron.

Make it 5 wins this season at Flat Rock for Jeremy Vanderhoof as he grabbed the victory in the 20 lap ARCA Victory Lane Quick Oil Change Figure 8 feature. Ethen Lambert charged into the lead on the start and looked strong as he battled Dennis Whisman up front. Whisman was credited with leading lap 2, but Ethen came right back to take the number 1 spot on lap 3. With 9 in, Vanderhoof got to the front and took control of the race on his way to the win over Ethen, notching his career-best finish with second spot. Whisman was third, Billy Earley fourth and Dennis Whisman Jr. fifth. Jeremy Miller, Eugene Worden, John Lambert, David Katafiasz, Dave Lambert, Stephanie Bradley and Travis Earley were next in line at the finish. Dennis Whisman and John Lambert took the heat race wins. Billy Earley posted the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts quick time at 20:715.

The night concluded with the wild Boat Figure 8 race as Dave Lambert floated to the win over Tommy O’Leary IV, Cody Remick, John Lambert and Mike Miller.
