PELLETIER-VANDERHOOF-MOORE JR.-CAMILLI NOTCH FLAT ROCK WINS

Flat Rock, MI—June 2, 2018: Paul Pelletier, Jeremy Vanderhoof, Rob Moore Jr. and Anthony Camilli captured feature wins Saturday night at Flat Rock Speedway on UAW Local 3000 Autograph Night and Monroe County 4-H Night. Ed Schroeder from Local 3000 presented the trophies to the winners in the Monroe Asphalt Winner’s Circle.

Fans had the chance to meet the drivers on-track during the autograph session prior to the race card. The TKC Go-Karts staged an exhibition race, while Pepsi handed out prizes to lucky race fans as part of the Race Into Summer Pepsi Giveaway promotion.

Trenton resident Paul Pelletier withstood the pressure from Jimmy Thiel in the final laps to win the 50 lap ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Model feature. Paul, the Moran Chevy Fast Qualifier (11:956) drew the 1 chip, putting the field in a straight-up start. The 3-time track champ stayed in command and had challenges from Stan Yee Jr. and Craig Everage early in the contest. Thiel worked his way into second spot just past lap 25. Yee Jr. dropped out with a fuel leak several laps later. In the closing stages, Thiel briefly grabbed the lead from Paul with 4 to go as the duo went into turn 1, but Pelletier charged back and took the number 1 spot back on his way to his first win of 2018. Thiel, who has been very strong this season, had to settle for second. The driver to watch was Dennis Strickland, as his Car #0 came to life in the final 20 circuits. Dennis, starting 8th, began to move up and cut the gap on the the lead pair as the race ended, netting him third spot. Everage was fourth and Frank Jiovani was fifth, followed by Jeff Vrsek, Chris Benson, Joe Hawes, Gary Hawes (in his first race since 1999), Derrick Sheppard and Yee Jr. Jiovani and Benson won the heat races. Strickland took the Moran Chevy Hard Charger Award, while Pelletier and Jiovani were the Penske Racing Shocks certificate winners.

The fans were treated to an exciting and very fast event as Jeremy Vanderhoof took the win in the thrilling 20 lap ARCA Victory Lane Quick Oil Change Figure 8 feature. Jeremy out-dueled Greg Studt on the green flag start and set a quick pace, as the pack encountered lapped traffic at the intersection before the half-way mark. The man on the move was Dennis Whisman from the 8th starting spot, as he kept the pedal to the floor, getting to second spot at the checkered flag. Billy Earley was third, Studt fourth and Jeremy Miller fifth. Eugene Worden, Dennis Whisman Jr., Danny Apperson, Ethen Lambert and David Katafiaz rounded out the top ten. Scott Apperson, Dave Lambert, Travis Earley and Joey Vanderhoof completed the finishing order. Heat winners were Miller and Whisman. Earley set the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts quick time at 21:273.

During the autograph session, fans selected the starting spots for the 20 drivers in the ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock A Main feature race. Several of the faster cars started deep in the field, making for a very competitive event the entire 25 laps. Youngster Rob Moore Jr. held back the charge of Guy Fire to win the race from his number 1 starting spot. While the race for the lead was challenging, so was watching the back of the pack as drivers made their moves to get up to the front. With just 1 yellow flag, the competition was tough from front to back the entire distance. Moore Jr. held on to win over Fire and Arnold Kirsch, who stayed in the second groove all the way, making a bid for the win. Grant Hedges was fourth and Clarity Patton’s best run of her career netted the fifth spot. Steve Searles, Trevor Farmer, Rob Randa (from 20th), Jeff Metdepenningen and Ray Morneau Jr. completed the top ten.

The only driver who has 2 wins at Flat Rock this season is Anthony Camilli, who notched his second consecutive victory in the 15 lap ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock B Main race. James Pankow closed in on Anthony in the last 5 laps and came home second, rookie L.J. Farmer was third, Ian Jezylo fourth, followed by Vaughn Chambless and rookie Gary Navarre.

Greg Studt, Patton, James Baber and Camilli took heat race wins. Morneau Jr. was the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts Fast Qualifier at 13:628, while Jezylo was fastest for the B Main cars at 14:222.
