ARCA Racing Series winner, Truck champion Rick Hahn passes

Richard John “Rick” Hahn, whose participation in ARCA sanctioned racing produced victories in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards and in weekly racing at Flat Rock Speedway, as well as multiple race wins and championships in the ARCA Truck Series, died unexpectedly Monday November 20. He was 71.

Hahn was initially a sponsor and marketing partner at Flat Rock Speedway through his Hahn’s Collision business. His interest in racing led him to fielding ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race cars driven to victory in 1993 at Five Flags Speedway in Florida and at Toledo Speedway by veteran Harold Fair Sr. When his son Paul Hahn was old enough to drive, the Rick Hahn-fielded cars were driven by Paul to multiple feature victories at Flat Rock Speedway in weekly ARCA Street Stock and ARCA Late Model competition. The father-son race team graduated to the ARCA Truck Series, where they became the most decorated team in series history with 29 wins and championships in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2011.

Hahn was born February 20, 1946 and served in the US Navy in Vietnam prior to establishing Hahn’s Collision on Van Born Road in Taylor, Michigan. He successfully operated the auto collision repair business for more than 30 years.

Rick Hahn is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marilyn; children Paul (Dawn) Hahn and Julie (Ryan) Assemany; grandchildren Logan, Anna, Abigail and Allison; sister Sharon and sister-in-law Carolyn (Gaspare); nieces, nephews, friends and loyal employees.

Visitation is 2-8pm Tuesday, November 21, at the McCabe Funeral Home-Canton Chapel, 851 N. Canton Center Road, Canton Township Michigan. Funeral services are Wednesday, November 22 at 11am at the same location.
