TRACKSIDE TIDBITS

Corrigan Oil 100

Greg Studt won his second career Street Stock A division 100 lap race. "I started in the back of the pack and it was a slow pace on the bottom, so I shot to the outside and it ran good. Then once I got to the front it started going away from me. It was running better on the outside than on the bottom and I think the 67 (Rob Randa) started slowing down … I didn't get any faster, just stuck with it. Apollo Broach, Sherri, Penny and Kenny Ahlgren help a lot, Jack's Garage, Budget Tire, Sportway Go-Karts, Wine Town Party Store and Mark's Toy Box.

The winner of the 2016 version of the race (and last week's winner), Ray Morneau Jr. finished second. "The car was awesome today. They have it hooked up perfect and whatever happened there in turn one … I hopped wheels with the 29 (Nick Sullivan) and it sent me up into the wall. I didn't think we'd be able to get back up through the field like this. The way the feature was going at the beginning, I'll take a second all day. I'd like to thank my sponsors Xpress Group, Hallmark Memorial, Scooter Pro, Rivard Snowplowing, Highland Tools, Double R Reworks, CNR Auto and Tire, Expressway Trucks, JR Graphics."

Rob Randa finished third, his career best finish in the 100-lap race. "The car got a little shove-y on me … I couldn't hold it down. I want to thank everyone … my son, mom and dad, Mr. Newby for the engine, it ran great. I want to thank my sponsors Tom's Cabinetry, Doug's Muffler ,Mt.Clemens Transmission, Belle River Liquidators."

Fourth place went to Guy Fire, also his best career finish in the 100-lapper. "The car was good all day. I was just hanging out saving my tires. I'll take a fourth-place finish, last year I broke my arm in this race, I'm just glad I finished this one. This race is all about staying hydrated, keeping your cool and saving your tires for the end. I'd like to thank I want to thank everyone that helps me and my sponsors Golden Insurance, Fender Mender, Sumpter Collision, Pro Spot Welding.

Rich Abel won his first Street Stock B division feature of the year. "I'd like to thank my Lord and Savior for giving me all these years to be able to do this … my health and blessed me throughout my life. I can't praise him enough; this victory is for Him. Jimmy (Pankow) opened up real wide and I drove in there and he came back and slammed me on the side and I thought 'Oh I hope he didn't get my tire'. God Bless everyone that came out tonight," said the driver of the Jesus Saves, Custard Corner #50. It was Rich's second win on 100 night, James Pankow and Lonnie York also have two wins, an odd note, the cars with multiple wins all have 5's in their number.

For the second year in the row in this race we had an injury that will put a driver out of commission for 6-8 weeks. Last year Guy Fire broke his arm, this year, Nick Shanks separated his shoulder. "I separated my shoulder in practice crash, got the car back together in time for race and with 10 to go my shoulder dislocated again during the race after making contact with another car. I'd like to thank my sponsors Log-gistics Sawmill, Glass City Collision … Derek Denton, Corey Bullock, Mike Young, Justin Bullock, Jeff Kurzniac, Bob Studt, Caleb Barron, Scott Selmi all helped get car back together, thank you. The injury will more than likely end my season."

Quite a few drivers had their best finish since 2005. Grant Hedges tied his career best, fifth; Jeff Metdepenningen, finish seventh (best prior 16th in 2016); Rookie David Liaeff finished eighth in his first 100; Collin Barron finished 10th in his first 100; Jeff Luttermoser, 11th (18th prior best); Rob Moore Jr and Nick Sullivan (rookie) both in their first 100, 13th and 14th, respectively.

Some more statistics on the 100 (2005-2017) … Did you know that Rob Moore has been in every 100 since 2005 (13 races) with his best being second in 2014 (Clyde McKee has 11 races, the second most; Kyle Worley, Rich Frantz, Scott Selmi, and Tim Moore have 10 races)… This race was his ninth top 10 finish in the 100), the most of any driver for the last 13 years; Tim Moore is second with eight; the remaining top 11 is Arnold Kirsch and Rich Frantz tied with six; Scott Selmi, five; Chad Guinn, Dan Ford Jr, Derek Wiley, Jeff Kurzyniec, Landon Schuster, and Randy DeMaggio, tied with 4.

Last week Trevor Farmer made his first start in the Street Stock, leading some of the B feature. Trevor is a third-generation driver, his dad, Jerry came out of retirement to race with his son. Jerry's last race was in 2008. I didn't ask, but I met Leroy Farmer who raced when I first started going to Flat Rock in 1981, so I assume he's Trevor's grandfather. Trevor is the sixth family member to race at Flat Rock (Uncle Kenny, Larry and Doug are the others). Jerry and Trevor are sponsored by L&D Farmer Trucking, Zander Trucking and JD Farmer Trucking.

Jeremy Vanderhoof won the Figure 8 feature for the second week in a row. "It fun (the feature). I'm glad we have the car count up. First up, I want to publicly apologize to Dan Apperson for what happened in the heat race, that was 100% my fault. It's not how you race, I don't even consider winning that race. I messed up and spun him out, that's not how you do things. If you start on the pole, you should win … when you start up front you can only go backwards so we did our job. Last week was more luck than anything else. I want to thank Rob Martel, my wife and kids, my cousin and uncle for all the help they give me from week to week.

Do the sides of John Lambert's #04 Figure 8 look familiar? They should, they once graced the side of Justin Schroeder's late model.

Congrats to Troy Brehmer on his Enduro win. I talked to him before the race and he should be out soon with his street stock.

Race Team #103, , Street Stock

I am so proud of this # 103 team. They work their butts off each week to get this car ready to race. My dad makes great calls each weekend to get the car where it needs to be. I was really unsure if we were going to even make the field for the 100 this weekend. After a slightly disappointing couple of practice sessions I was really nervous going into qualifying. With a slight chassis adjustment, we went out and turned our best lap this year with a 13.738 which put us seventh of 30 cars. With an inversion of 10 we started fourth, outside second row. We survived 100 laps with very minimal damage. We had to pit 2 times once for a chassis adjustment and once for a flat tire after being involved in a wreck. We scored another top 10 and stayed on the lead lap the entire time.

I can't express how much I appreciate everybody that helps us out and I definitely can't thank our sponsor enough. We would not be here doing what we love without all of the support we get. Thanks for all the help: Paul Rossi, Madeline Cecchetti, Rob Mobley, Michala Burke, Gregory Barron, Justen Bullock, Caleb Barron, Chelsea Barron, Jerry M. Van Washhnova … and great pit stop boys!

Craig Lange, Street Stock

Team 76 had a sixth-place finish tonight in the 100 lapper. Making progress and getting a little faster week by week. Thanks to all that helped and supported us this week. Suburban Calcium Chloride Sales, Rey Mart Asphalt, Olson Cement, Taylor Building Supply, Blossom Florists and Gap Reality. Congrats to Greg Studt on a well-deserved win.

Jeffrey Kurzyniec, Street Stock

Well the first night of the season didn't go as planned. Qualified 8th quick the invert was a 9 so 1st started outside pole. Right from the get go there was nothing on the outside and we went right 2 the back and we finished 10th. On the plus side we loaded the Base Hit Lawn Care, Rosedale Products, Inc., B'Raine Storm, G & L Tool Sales, Mac Tools, Double JK Racing 72 up on the trailer and live to fight another night.

Jesse Carrillo, Street Stock

A tie rod broke and I lost 1st gear in the feature. I'd like to thank my sponsors Northwest Trailers, Fleet Enterprise, Platinum Adjusters. I used to race #10, now I'm running #62 for Rick Cousino (he used to race at Toledo and had a stroke and is not able to race no more do).

James Vanderhoof, Figure 8

Well this weekend was fun won my heat race. And was up to 6th in the feature and Dan Apperson thought he would leave his exhaust on the track lol. Got a flat and finished 11th again. But all in all the car was great and going for the win again in 2 weeks. Thank you Rob Martel for the car to drive and always being there for me

#05 F8 Team (Gary Cronenwett drove it this week), Figure 8

Well, had a decent outing, qualified fourth, started on pole for feature! Car was off, made a couple changes before feature, still not 100%. Lost brakes on lap 7 but finished ninth. It felt good to get back in! Want to say a big thank you to Paul Pelletier, Nate Wilson for putting in work prior to raceday. Thanks Race Loving for the help Saturday. We'll get 'em next week! Also want to thank Guy Fire and team.

Jimmy Tucker, Enduro

Disappointing night at Flat Rock Speedway last night. Started 12th and took the lead on lap 43. Fell back saving tires and the starter broke on lap 149 under a red. Thank you to everyone that helps us out Jim's Catering, Quarter King Racing, Moran Automotive, Superior Radiator, Bahama Bronze and J&D Auto Care. Definitely had a Top 2 car. On to the next one July 2nd at Flat Rock. One thing everyone learned Saturday night is that there is a new kid on the block in the #20 car. I think Ethan Stadniczuk is someone we are going to look back on and say I raced against him a few years ago when he's on tv. He comes from a good family and seems like he catches on pretty quick, with better luck I think he had us all covered.

Ethan Stadniczuk, Enduro

"Really enjoyed racing for the first time with everybody and learned a lot into the process. Want to say thanks to my Dad and Uncle Tadek for all the long nights working in the shop! Wouldn't be made possible without our sponsors, Forest View Lanes, Aries Engineering, Wayward Bar and Grill, One Stop Speed Shop, ES Billing Solutions. Helped a lot having a lot of track time before the race and also racing minicup cars in the past. (I'm 15 years old). My dad, David used to drive Enduro and Street Stocks.

Paul Martell

I spent all week before work changing the setup back (from running the Figure 8 track at Toledo), repair damage sustained from Toledo, and preparing the car for 250 laps at the Rock. Our goal was for a top 10 finish, but the Enduro races can be unpredictable. At the start I ran conservatively, not wanting to trigger a wreck by forcing the issue. As we got sorted out, I started getting more aggressive with those I could race against. I had a few near misses out there, but managed to bring it in with minimal damage. I have to thank my friends Kathie Hejl, Gus Lauer, and Jerry Kondraciuk for scoring and pit work. Now we get a little bit of a break before running the Onaway/Flat Rock double on July 1st and 2nd. Actually I tied my best...lol. 5th place with 245 laps. The funny thing is that all three of my 5th place finishes have come through a dq. The one time I was on the leaderboard in fifth a couple years ago, I got wrecked out with 60 to go."

Dillon Zalenski, Enduro

I had driven up into the top 10 before dropping out with transmission problems. I'm sponsored by Tony's Tires. The car was very fast before the transmission problems.

Bus Night

Craig Everage broke Justin Schroeder's three-race win streak. He also was the fast qualifier giving him an extra $100. "Good breaks with (Justin) Schroeder breaking early. Then the race went green a long way, helping with a V6 engine. I'd like to thank my sponsors Ft Wayne Auto Auction, Everage Auto.Com … Great crew … Great Crowd … I'm looking forward to running good in a big race soon."

Paul Pelletier finished second and reported the track got greasy as the race wound down and the car got really tight. He'd like to thank the sponsors of his #44: Fraza Forklifts, Jaimes Industries, Dusty's Collision, ABC Plumbing, L & M Hardwood, Blue Water Air Compressors, Exotic Automation.

Justin Schroeder broke the rear end on his Gibson Broach & Tool, Inc, Cochran, Kroll & Associates, P.C., Southgate Hair Station, D. Slater Home Inspections, Molnar Funeral Homes, Don's Garage, G. Michael Kabot Orthodontics, Glass Unlimited #4, ending his streak of three Late Model wins in row.

Steve Cronenwett Jr. was running fifth on the last lap and broke the transmission on his Varsity Ford, First Centennial Title Agency, Kevin Butzin Recycling #21. "We are just struggling this year. Haven't had luck on our side this year but hopefully we can turn things around the next half of the season."

Where Steve Jr. had a bad race, Tom Cronenwett (his uncle) had a really great night "Yes, this was my best feature finish since I've been back racing and my first heat race win. I'm looking forward to competing in more races this year. My next race will be July 1 at Toledo. My sponsors are Victory Lane Quick Oil Change, Sunny Media, Discount Motorcycle Tires, Bright Green, and ROUSH Performance."

Billy Earley won the Figure 8 feature. He has won at least one Figure 8 feature at Flat Rock since 2009.

Congrats to Dave Lambert (Flag Pole and Boat race winner) and Dennis Whisman (bus winner).
