Long time ARCA driver, official Bob Thomsen passes

(March 1, 2016) - Long time ARCA driver and official Bob Thomsen Sr. died Tuesday, March 1 at the age of 79 after a lengthy illness.  Bob’s son Bobby Thomsen is the Technical Services Director for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, and both Bobby and his grandson Brice Thomsen followed in his footsteps as drivers in ARCA sanctioned races at Flat Rock and Toledo Speedway.

A lifetime resident of the downriver Detroit area, Bob was born in Wyandotte and lived in Southgate for over 50 years. A lifelong auto mechanic, he owned several filling/service stations throughout the downriver area during the 1960s and 1970s. Bob is survived by his sons Bobby (Kelly) Thomsen and Mark (Cathy) Thomsen; Grandchildren Selena, Robyn, Brice, Crystal, Timmy, Mark Jr. and Nichole; Great Grandchildren Kaytlynn, Brooklynn, Robert and Skylar; and sisters Garnet Huiser, Kitty Onstead and Janice Sursek.
