PELLETIER-SCHUSTER-PANKOW-LOVING ICE FLAT ROCK WINS

PELLETIER-SCHUSTER-PANKOW-LOVING ICE FLAT ROCK WINS

Flat Rock, MI—May 23, 2015:  Sunshine and crystal-clear blue skies greeted a good crowd and a large group of kids for the Kid’s Night promotion Saturday at Flat Rock Speedway.  Children 12 and under were admitted free and received a free hot dog, compliments of the track and Schwebel Baking Company.  Paul Pelletier, Landon Schuster, James Pankow and Robbie Loving visited the 7-Up Winner’s Circle via their victories.

The first 20 laps of the 50 lap ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Model feature went without a yellow flag, which gave Paul Pelletier the lead.  Steve Cronenwett Jr. looked high and low to challenge for the top spot, as the duo put on a great show for the fans.  The duo went right back at it on the re-start, but the race was red-flagged on lap 35 when fast qualifier Craig Everage (11:671) broke an oil line.  After the clean-up, Cronenwett again charged up to the high side to battle Pelletier.  With about 8 laps to go, Justin Schroeder snuck under Cronenwett for second and then went to the outside lane.  Justin got door to door with Paul with 2 laps to go, but Pelletier was strong on the bottom groove and grabbed the win over Schroeder, Cronenwett Jr., Dennis Strickland, Derek Wiley, Corey Duane, Chris Benson, Joe Hawes, Dennis Rederstorf and Bryan Richards.  Cronenwett Jr, Richards and Jimmy Ward Jr. took the heat race wins.  Ward’s win was his first-ever checkered flag.

New father Landon Schuster led every lap on his way to the victory in the 25 lap ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock A Main contest.  The race was slowed by a quick yellow flag at lap 3.  The final 22 laps were all Schuster, as he nosed out to a 4 car length lead at the stripe for his first win of the year.  Scott Selmi was strong with his second place run, Tim Moore was third, Kyle Worley fourth and Rob Moore fifth, followed by Arnold Kirsch, Nick Shanks, Craig Lange, Steve Chartrand and rookie Ray Morneau Jr.

Lap 3 proved to be tough in the 15 lap Street Stock B Main.  Adam Jezylo, trying to avoid a slow car and another competitor, had no place to go and tagged the turn 3 wall a ton.  The engine caught fire, Adam bailed out and his car sustained major damage.  Adam walked to the ambulance for a checkup and was ok.  When racing resumed, James Pankow held off a spirited challenge by Jeffrey Kurzyniec for the win.  William Lauria, Jezylo and Benn Finch completed the finishing order.  Heat race winners were Tim Moore, Chartrand, Jimmy Little and Pankow.  Selmi posted the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts quick time at 13:642 for the 26 car field, while Pankow led the B cars at 15:088.

And the finale’ of the night was a thriller, as Robbie Loving and Greg Studt waged a sensational battle for the lead in the 20 lap ARCA Praxair Figure 8 feature.  The duo started side by side on the green, and the non-stop battle was filled with exciting intersection action!  Studt would pull alongside Robbie on several occasions, but in the final 2 laps, the lead pair put on a classic, running door to door around much of the Figure 8 course.  Loving was able to hold the advantage at the flag for the win.  Studt’s great drive netted him second, Dennis Whisman, Billy Earley and Jeremy Miller swapped spots 3-4-5 for much of the race and finished in that order.  Jacob Lee, Scott Apperson, Randy Roberts, Race Loving and David Katafiasz completed the top ten.  Studt set the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts fast time at 20:944.  Parker Wade and Apperson were the heat winners.

The DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks will battle in their biggest race of the season next Saturday, May 30 in the Corrigan Race Fuels 100 lap feature.  The winner will take home the $1000 top prize.  A 25 lap B Main is also on the race card, in addition to a full race program for the ARCA Praxair Figure 8’s.

The 100 lap feature and the B Main will also include bonus money of lap money at $5 per lap.  To become a lap money sponsor, call the Flat Rock office at 734-782-2480 or the Toledo office at 419-727-1100.

It’s also Checkered Flag Night, with the first 500 kids through the front gate receiving a small checkered flag.  The front gates open at 4 and racing begins at 7 p.m.
