3 GENERATIONS TO RACE AT FLAT ROCK SATURDAY

3 GENERATIONS TO RACE AT FLAT ROCK SATURDAY

(Flat Rock, MI—September 4, 2014):  It’s very common to find a father racing against a son at the hundreds of short tracks across the United States.  The list narrows down very quickly when you add in the grandfather behind the wheel of a race car.  And this somewhat rare occurrence will take place Saturday night at Flat Rock Speedway when 3 generations of the Earley family go wheel to wheel in the Flag Pole race, part of the School Bus Figure 8 Night at “The Rock”.

Gary Earley captured 29 wins in his career at Flat Rock. His son, Billy, followed in his father’s footsteps and was crowned Flat Rock champ, taking the 2009 title.  And now Billy’s son and Gary’s grandson, 16 year old Travis has jumped behind the wheel.  All 3 will compete in the Flag Pole race, which features a flag pole (or tire) located in both the front straight and back straight of the ¼ mile paved oval.  Each lap, the cars must go around the flag pole to complete a lap, which usually ends up with some wild action and criss-crossing around the pole!

While Gary continues to wrench on Billy’s Figure 8 machine, Travis is making the transition from go-karts to race cars.  The youngest Earley teamed with his dad Billy last Friday night at Toledo Speedway and the duo won the Figure 8 Train race event.  The trio will compete in Figure 8 cars #07, #08 and #09 Saturday night.

Saturday, September 6 is the date for the School Bus Figure 8 races at Flat Rock Speedway.  The final 2 races at Flat Rock have a special 6 p.m. start time!  The Figure 8’s and Street Stocks will have some fun, with no qualifying—heat race lineups will be determined by a draw and the feature race is set by the heat finishes.  A Flag Pole race, the Road Rage race, a wild Boat Figure 8 contest and, of course, the School Bus Figure 8’s will highlight the evening of family fun and entertainment!

Tickets are now on sale at the track office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.  Phone orders are being accepted by calling 734-782-2480.  Most major credit cards are accepted.  The advance ticket sale and phone sales end at 5 p.m. Friday.  Tickets will then go back on sale at 3:30 p.m. at the track on race day.  Practice begins at 4:30 and racing starts at 6 p.m.
