Flat Rock Speedway

(Flat Rock, MI—June 27, 2014):  Flat Rock Speedway will celebrate the 4^th of July holiday weekend with a race card filled with variety Saturday night, July 5.  The ARCA Aramark Sportsman cars, the 250 lap Enduro race and the wild Figure 8 Train race are set to provide the entertainment at “The Rock”.

The Sportsman class, which competes at Toledo for much of the season, will be making the first of 2 visits to Flat Rock’s ¼ mile paved oval, as they did in 2013.  The race carries points that will be added to the Toledo totals to determine the division’s 2014 champion.  A 50 lap feature event is on the race card for the stock-bodied cars.  Current point leader Ron Allen lead the field of entries.

Race number 2 of 4 for the Enduro cars will take place July 5, as the field goes 250 laps!  The race is stopped only for safety measures, and the contest has become a down-to-the-wire race to the checkered flag.  Danny Bennett edged out his brother, Rick, in the closing laps to win the first 250 lap event May 17.  The Enduro cars will get 1 practice session and then qualify in groups of 8-10 cars while on the clock.  An inversion will be determined by the fast qualifier of the night as the drivers get ready for 250 laps of action!

And there’s nothing like 2 cars chained together---the front car with the engine, the back car with the brakes!  It’s Figure 8 Train racing and Saturday, July 5 the wild contest goes green flag on Flat Rock’s  Figure 8 track.  The trick is you have 2 cars that have to avoid an intersection collision, where you may encounter 2-3 trains….or 6 cars…..you get the picture!  It’s the one and only scheduled Figure 8 Train race of the season at Flat Rock for 2014.

The pit gates will open at 4, practice begins at 5 and the front gate and ticket office will also open at 5.  Time trials are at 6:15 and racing gets the green flag at 7 p.m.
