Trackside Tidbits

Paul Pelletier won his first Super Late Model race of the season. It was his 17th career SLM win at Flat Rock. “These guys (my crew), I wore them out the last three weeks with setups, we finally went with something we had ... and it seemed to work. Tonight’s Kevin Butzin sponsored night and think we won on a couple of the other nights he sponsored, so don’t know if it’s an omen or what, but we seem to win when Kevin’s here. He can sponsor the rest of the year as far as I’m concerned,” After getting the trophy, “Wow, look at the trophy, it’s green (matches the car),” said the driver of the Fraza Forklifts, ABC Plumbing and Drain, Exotic Auotmation, Dusty's Collision #44. After several second place finishes this year, this breaks the bridesmaid street he was on.

Cory Duane, who is Paul's teammate, won his third career Street Stock A division feature. 'Car’s running really well this year. It’s getting hooked up. I have to apologize to Nick (Shanks), I’m sorry he had to go back there, we were racing hard ... but I got the win so I’ll take it. I want to thank Limelight Motorsports, Paul Pelletier, the crew, especially my wife Lindsay."

Rich Able won the Street Stock B division feature.

“That’s two in a row and the Lord has blessed me, and I have to thank him for that ... and my health ... and keeping me safe. You know, I can’t believe Lonnie (York, who is Rich’s unofficial teammate) put the bumper to me. Shoot, we just got through building that car ... I built the car for him and he hits me the back end and spins me out. He gave me the spot back ... he’s a good guy. I’d like to thank all the fans for coming out,” Rich has to be one of the happiest drivers we have, and interviews with him are a treat.

Jeremy Vanderhoof won the Figure 8 feature. It is his 15th of his career at Flat Rock tying him with Billy Earley 15th on the all time Figure 8 list at Flat Rock.

“It’s good to get some new faces out here (for the Figure 8s) ... the Lambert boys (Ethan and John) and Race Loving, are doing well... it’s just glad to get new cars out here, makes the racing a lot more fun. When we were leading it wasn’t a lot of fun, it was pretty interesting through there (the intersection). The guys behind me are pretty clean drivers, so I knew if I messed up, Greg (Studt) wouldn’t muscle by me. I want to thank my Uncle Larry and Aunt Tammy, they help me get here every week. My family, for letting me come out here, Karen and the kids. We’re running pretty good ... we’ll be taking off a week here because Karen and I are finally going to get married. It’s been a long time coming. Think I’ve been putting these race cars before too many things, but I grew up here and the wins are hard to get and I cherish every one of them. I want to thank the track sponsors, and all the people that work at the track for putting on the show so we can race.”

Making his first career start in the Super Late Model division was Jimmy Ward Jr. Actually it was the 16-year-old's first start in any sort of racecar. He practiced for three hours the Thursday prior and the practice on Saturday was his only experience. He finished 15th, three laps down... a creditable run. His mentor/spotter for the night was Late Model driver, Jimmy Theil.

Tim Moore (street stocks) was aboard the Meade Motorsports #86 for the night, but the car had problems in the heat and Tim was unable to run the feature.

Returning after a three year absence in the Street Stock division was former multiple Street Stock champion (1995, 1996, 2008, 2009, 2010) Dan Ford Jr. The car is owned by Tom Graham and is sponsored by AC DC Deer Processing. The car was last driven by Dave Tanner and also owned by Ford Racing. For his first race back, Dan finished second.

Lonnie York made his first start of the season and finished third.

Leftover from last week. Kyle Worley, who won the Street Stock A division feature would like to thank his sponsors Island Winery, Budget Tires, Bolton Speed Shop along with thanking his parents and fans.

From the Email bag:

Jeffrey Kurzyniec: "Had a good night spun out right in front of Dan Ford in practice and an glad he's such a good driver because he was able to miss me. Like to thank Rich Frantz again this week ...  let me go out and follow him in practice and show me the correct line to run. Had fun in the feature. Somehow turned my channel on my raceceiver during the race so I couldn't hear the tower during cautions but still got things figured out and the last caution really got into the grove and was racing good ran my fastest time yet. On the second to last lap when I ran a 14.885 then over-drove the car coming off (turn) four trying to catch Don Roberts and spun it out crossing the line. Had a fun night again and hope to keep up the learning process in the right direction this week."
