(Flat Rock, Michigan—May 21, 2014): To long-time race fans, track officials, car owners, drivers and mechanics, the memories of Joy Fair and his accomplishments, not to mention his ever-present smile and good nature, are special. To a husband and wife, race fans at heart, the race named in Joy’s honor means a bit more. And to that effect, Rich and Judi Fidh have stepped forward with a special bonus award for Saturday night’s Diamond Racing Products Joy Fair Memorial at Flat Rock Speedway.

Long-time fans Rich and Judi Fidh will award a $159 bonus to the driver that leads the most laps, in honor of Fair’s 159 career Flat Rock feature wins, which tops the charts at “The Rock” and most likely will never be seriously challenged.

The legendary Fair, who passed away December 10, 2011 at the age of 81, was one of the top short track racers in the country, amassing over 800 career feature victories around the Midwest in his lifetime. Joy was a 10-time Flat Rock Speedway champion and 7-time Toledo Speedway champ. Joy also is the career win leader at Toledo with 97 checkered flags in Late Model competition.

Lap money is being sold for just $5 per lap for the 100 lap contest Saturday night. To become a lap sponsor, call 734-782-2480 or 419-727-1100 today! A listing of the sponsors will be inserted into the souvenir program and public address mentions are also included.

The 100 lap contest, race number 1 of the 5-race Discount Tire Gold Cup Series, will award the winner $2000. The race pays $500 to start for the 24 car field. If there are 32 cars or more, a 25 lap B Main will be run, with $500 to win posted for this race. Practice, time trials, last-chance race(s) and the possible B Main will make up the race card. DTS Drive Train Specialists of Warren, MI will award a $100 bonus to the fastest qualifier for all five (5) of the Discount Tire Gold Cup events in 2014.

The ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock class will also be in action with a full race program for the Saturday, May 24 event. The pit gates open at 1:30, practice begins at 3, the front gate opens at 3, time trials are at 5 and racing begins at 7 p.m. A rain date of Sunday, May 25 at 3 p.m. has been established.
