Flat Rock Speedway

(Flat Rock, Michigan - May 12, 2014):  Entries have begun arriving for the first race of the ARCA Discount Tire Late Model Gold Cup event of the season, the Diamond Racing Products Joy Fair Memorial 100, set for Saturday, May 24 at Flat Rock Speedway.  With the event scheduled for the Memorial Day weekend, a rain date of Sunday, May 25 has been established.

The legendary Fair, who passed away December 10, 2011 at the age of 81, was one of the top short track racers in the country, amassing over 800 career feature victories around the Midwest in his lifetime.  Joy was a 10-time Flat Rock Speedway champion and 7-time Toledo Speedway champ and is the all-time win leader at both tracks.  Fair is the all-time feature win leader for the ARCA Late Model division at Flat Rock with 159 victories.  Joy also is the career win leader at Toledo with 97 checkered flags in Late Model competition. 

The early entries include Toledo, OH driver Nick Bailey, 4-time Flat Rock champion Eric Lee, Grandville, MI driver Bryan Clay, 2003 Flat Rock champ Stan Yee Jr., current Flat Rock Late Model point leader Frank Jiovani, 2013 Flat Rock champ and 2013 Glass City 200 winner Dennis Strickland and the only female driver on the list, second-generation driver Lori Hall.  A field of 25-35 Late Models are expected for the May 24 event. 

The 100 lap contest will award the winner $2000, with $500 to start posted for the 24 car field.  If there are 32 cars or more, a 25 lap B Main will be run, with $500 to win posted for this race.  Practice, time trials, last-chance race(s) and the possible B Main will make up the race card.  DTS Drive Train Specialists of Warren, MI will award a $100 bonus to the fastest qualifier for all five (5) of the Discount Tire Gold Cup events in 2014.

The remainder of the Discount Tire Gold Cup Series schedule includes the Discount Tire 100 presented by the Hollywood Casino at Toledo Speedway Friday, June 6 and Friday, July 11 is the date for the Discount Tire 100/PNC Bank Night, also at Toledo.  It’s back to Flat Rock Saturday, July 26 for the Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150, and the series concludes Friday, August 15 back at Toledo with the Miller Lite 100 presented by Grogan’s Towne.  The August race is a combination race with the Main Event Racing Series.

The ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists will also be in action with a full race program for the Saturday, May 24 event.

Harold Fair Jr. was the winner of the 2012 Joy Fair Memorial, while Phil Bozell captured the 2013 edition, which was combined with the Stan Yee Memorial after weather washed out the race on several occasions last year

The pit gates open at 1:30, practice begins at 3, the front gate and ticket office opens at 3, time trials are at 5 and racing begins at 7 p.m.
