Dailey Takes Thrilling Aquafina 250 Enduro at Flat Rock; Snares Championship

Flat Rock, MI  (8-29-2008)--  Howell, MI driver Michael Dailey pulled off the “Daily Double” in outstanding fashion Friday night at Flat Rock Speedway, pulling off the upset win by .12 of a second to win the Aquafina 250 lap Enduro race and in the process sewed up the 2008 Flat Rock Enduro championship.  Matt Brazeau took the 25 lap ARCA David’s Jewelry 4 Cylinder race in front of a good crowd.

Going into the 4th and final Enduro of the season, point leader Jeff Maran and second place man Rick Bennett both suffered damage in separate incidents.  Maran got tagged by a spinning car in the early stages while Bennett, running up front, got into a stalled car on lap 65, ending his night.  Bennett and Dailey traded the lead in the first 50 laps, while Dupuis, starting last in the 39 car field, made his way to the front.  Jeff Metdepenningen  worked his way to the lead on lap 70 while Dupuis took command on lap 76.  Tristan sailed out front as the laps wound down in the fast-paced event, which was completed in 1 hour and 11 minutes.

Dailey, Metdepenningen and Rick Johnson battled for second just past lap 100 as Tristan continued to motor away.  With only 1 red flag, the race took its toll on the field and Dailey started to whittle away the gap.  With 20 laps to go, Dailey had Dupuis in his sights, and with 10 to go, he crept within 2 car lengths.  With a pack of 3-4 lapped cars in front, Dailey nosed into contention and on the white flag, went to the high side while Dupuis tucked in low.  Dailey powered his way into turn 3 up against the wall, stood on it and just nipped Dupuis as the crowd rose to its feet and cheered on the fabulous finish.  Metdepenningen was third, Johnson fourth and Dave Arnold Jr. fifth, followed by Robb Remick, Derrick Sheppard, Tom Sprotberry, Tom LaFollette and Tony Rumble.  Dailey, in fourth spot in the points heading into the night, made his victory special, earning enough points to grab the track title, his second in a row over Sprotberry by 30 markers.

Four different drivers took turns leading the 25 lap ARCA David’s Jewelry 4 Cylinder feature race, with Matt Brazeau holding off David Price in a great 5 car battle for the win, his first at Flat Rock.  Jennifer Cronce led laps 1-2, with Brandon Brazeau taking control on lap 3.  Marlow shot into the lead on the next lap and the chase was on as Matt Brazeau, Price, Mike Bershback, Shawn Bershback and Perry Marlow took up the fight for the top spot.  Matt used the high groove in the all-green flag contest and sped to the win over Price, Shawn Bershback, and Mike Bershback’s as his car went up in smoke on the final lap as he coasted across the stripe in fourth.  Michael Marlow, Turner, Brandon Beazeau, Nick Vittuci, Perry Marlow and Jimmy Little completed the top ten.  Fast time went to Turner at 15:179.  Vittuci, the coach of the future Toledo Walleye hockey team, competed in the Flat Rock/Toledo house car #22 in his first-ever stock car race.

The track jumps back into action Saturday night, August 30 with the Figure 8 Season Championships.  Dennis Whisman leads Robbie Loving by just 10 points going into the final point race of the year.  The ARCA Late Models and Street Stocks will also be in competition.  Race time is 7 p.m.
