Rain Hits Flat Rock Again; Autograph Night August 16

FLAT ROCK, MI: (8-10-08): For the fourth time in the last eight Saturday events, Flat Rock Speedway suffered yet another cancellation of its race card. The Lakeshore Utility Trailer Sales-sponsored event of August 9, featuring the Buckeye Super Sprints, Michigan Legends and the track's weekly ARCA Street Stocks, Figure 8's and 4 Cylinders fell victim to the rain. A total of 105 cars were on hand.

Qualifying was completed just before the rains set in at 6:25 p.m.  A brief break in the weather set the plan in motion to dry the track, but the rain returned again at 7:45 p.m., prompting track officials to call it a night.

The  Buckeye Super Sprints, making their initial appearance at the track and marking the first open-wheel event at Flat Rock in 12 years, were impressive in time trials.  4 cars broke into the 10 second bracket, led by Zach Gibson with a lap at 10:629, just 1/10 of a second off the track record.  Due to scheduling conflicts with the track and the touring series, the Sprinters will not return in 2008 to Flat Rock, but will be back on the 2009 race schedule.

In the ARCA Greater Detroit Auto Auction Street Stock time trials, Tim Moore led the 44 car field with a lap at 13:328, while Tom Freeman Jr. led the B Main at 13:834.  Jeremy Vanderhoof was the Loving Auto Care fast qualifier for the ARCA Speedway Bar and Grille Figure 8's at 20:667.  The David's Jewelry 4 Cylinder division fast man was Brad Turner at 15:429.

This Saturday, August 16 is the popular Autograph Night, sponsored by Sterling Printing and Graphics and Leppen Chiropractic.  The track will also host their annual United Way of Monroe County Night, featuring prize raffles at the track.  The ARCA Late Models, Figure 8's and Street Stocks will provide the racing action after the on-track autograph session, where fans walk onto the track to meet the drivers.  The race teams enjoy the night by providing photos, snacks and the like for fans of all ages!

The Autograph session begins at 6:15 and racing takes the green flag at 7 p.m.
