Trackside Tidbits by Debi Domby

Randy DeMaggio took the lead on lap 21 and spent the remainder of the 100-lap feature battling with someone or the other. He won what was probably the biggest race of his racing career when he was victorious in the Street Stock 100-lap feature Saturday night.

"Awesome! I want to thank my crew, family, Ron Allen. I also want to thank my sponsors, V. Klemptner Md., Kurt Miller Mac Tools, Fairlane Ford. The car never skipped a beat tonight. All these guys in the field did a terrific job tonight," said the driver of the #84. Tonight was Randy's third win of the year. It is the first time in his driving career that he's won three points paying races... although he has won three races in a year (a SS win, an X car win and the Sportsman race at Toledo on Glass City weekend). The driver of the #84 has the most street stock wins of anyone this year ... tonight's win was his 11th career win.

Dan Ford Jr., battled with DeMaggio late in the event, but wasn't able to pull of the win. "It was a good battle with Rand (DeMaggio). I was really good on the restarts and went for it. It paid more to win than finish second, but it still was a good finish," said the driver who currently leads the points standings by 150 points (over DeMaggio).

Third went to Derek Wiley. "The car was really good tonight. I want to thank my crew and sponsors, thank Iron Mikes Bar and Grill, Crest Ford, A&W of Brownstown, Newport Auto Repair, Crystal Cut Tool, Prestige Spa Covdrs, VJ's Country Pantry and Giles Auto Body. We'll get them next time," said the driver of the #27. Derek and Randy have the same engine builder, Mick Laskey, so he had a good weekend.

Fourth place went to last week's winner, Tim Moore. The top four finishers have won seven of the nine races run this year. "I was really hoping my tires would hold out the entire 100 laps. They're the same tires I used last week to win with and surprising they worked pretty well ... but I was worried they would make it to the end. The car's in one piece, so it's a good weekend," said the driver of the Possuches, Clamdiggers, MAACO and Dow Engines #83.

Fifth went to sometimes late model competitor, Arnold Kirsch. "I started 21st and had a blast driving to the front passing cars. That's the most fun I have had in a racecar in 4-5 years. I want to thank my crew, Dave Kensler, Steve (Cheeseburger) Stein, Jeff Metdeppeningen. I don't have any sponsors this year, the ones on the car are leftovers from when Dave Kensler drove the car," said the driver of the #7.

Sixth place finisher Clyde McKee fought a slipping clutch most of the feature.

David Kind and Regan Ford had engine related problems, ending their race early.

Lonnie York won his first B feature of the year holding off Jimmy Rae, who has won the last two B features. "The car ran really good. Thanks to Rich (Abel) who kept at me and wouldn't let me give up. He came up with a good setup tonight," said the driver of the City Lounge, All Good Contruction and Landscaping, Ken and Sheri Woody Sr. Trucking.

"That was a real good race. Thank the race fans for coming and my family. Also I want to thank Bob Swanson for being a gentleman when we tangled (and I was able to get my spot back). I want to congratulate Lonnie on his win," said the driver of the Always Trucking Driving School #1.

Third went to Ian Jezylo. "That's my best finish in the B main. Everyone ran clean but still raced hard. It's always fun when they do that," said the driver of the #90.

Fourth was Tom Freeman Jr. "Had a problem in the beginning but was able to move forward," said the driver of the Clayton Exhaust, Kolz's Corner, Dow Engines, Limelight Motorsports.

Joe Gramlich was the fifth place finisher, "We worked really hard on the car. I didn't qualify well, so will have to work on that. I want to thank Arnold Kirsch for helping me." (oddly enough the person he thanked finished 5th too).

Another career finish was by James Pankow who finished seventh. His previous best finish in a B division feature was 10th. He got as high up as fifth before handling problems after the red flag curtailed his terrific run.

The red flag came out when Rae and Bob Swanson were racing for the lead, the pair touched with Swanson heading and hitting the wall. Following closely behind were Rich Abel and Billy Earley. Rich hit the end of the turn two wall and early just before it. Both cars' had severe front end damage.

Scott Selmi was having engine related problems and was unable to drive. Also at the track was Scott's dad, Jim Selmi and Justin Boatman.

Jeremy Miller won his third Figure 8 feature of the season at Flat Rock, bringing his career total at the track to 32. This ties him with Randy Cronenwett (Sr.) sixth on the all time Figure 8 feature win list. "It was a great race. I was able to work through traffic a little faster than I thought."

If it is not the first time this has happened, it is probably the first time in a long time that it has, during the Figure 8 heats, husband and wife, Nick and Stephanie Bradley started on the front row together.

Congrats to Dave Arnold Jr. on his third Factory Stock A feature win... It is his seventh career win at Toledo, tying him with Dave (Gumby) Golembiewski for fifth on the Factory Stock win list.
