Flat Rock Speedway

Flat Rock, MI  (7-19-08)--  For the third Saturday out of the last 5, Flat Rock Speedway’s racing program was cancelled due to rain.  A handful of teams had checked in and were ready to begin practice about 3:30  The Sterling Printing and Graphics Christmas in July prize give-away was also slated to take place Saturday. when the elements set in. 

Santa Claus and the prize give-away will now take place Saturday night, August 2.  The Racer’s Reunion that was also scheduled has been reset for Saturday, August 16.  

Next Saturday, July 26 is the Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 for the ARCA Late Models.  This race has been lost to rain twice already this season and hopefully the third time is the charm.  Greater Detroit Auto Auction will sponsor the night of racing.  And there’s fun for the kids with the Nickel and Penny Grab set to go at 6:45 p.m. on the front stretch of the track. 

Ticket stubs from the June 14 bus race at Flat Rock and the June 20 Toledo show are worth $5 off admission to the 150 lap show.  Those ticket stubs must be turned in at the ticket office windows next Saturday night.

Nearly $30,000 in cash will be paid out next Saturday night, marking the longest race of the season and the biggest payout of 2008 at “The Rock”.  The 150 lap contest will pay $2533 to the winner, with $533 to start the event.  Thanks to the Yee family and friends, $333 has been posted for fast time, another $333 goes to leader of lap 33 and another $333 goes to the leader of lap 133.  Yee, a championship car owner with ARCA for over 40 years, passed away in May.

The track’s weekly Figure 8 and Street Stock classes will also be in competition, with features only slated for these 2 divisions. 

Practice begins at 3, time trials are at 5 and racing begins at 7 p.m.  The front gates will also open at 3 p.m.  All tickets will go on sale at 3 p.m. race day.
