Rains Flood Out Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial at Flat Rock

Re-Set For Next Saturday, June 28th

Flat Rock, MI: (6-21-08)-- Mother Nature unleashed heavy rains, thunder, lightning and strong winds at Flat Rock Speedway Saturday afternoon, wiping out the Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 for the ARCA Late Models. The biggest race of the season at “The Rock” has been rescheduled for next Saturday, June 28. The entire program will follow the same schedule next Saturday.

All tickets dated for June 21 will be honored June 28. In addition to the Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial, the Leppen Chiropractic Night will be held as scheduled, along with Monroe County 4-H Youth Night. A large crowd is expected for the racing card. Ticket stubs from the June 14 race at Flat Rock and the June 20 race at Toledo may be presented at the ticket window for a $5 discount to the June 28 show. 1 discount per person will be honored.

A total of 31 Late Models were at the track Saturday and took part in a 30 minute practice session before the monsoon-type rains hit the track. A large majority of the teams are expected to return June 28, and several other cars could also be headed to Flat Rock for the rain date for the track’s largest purse payout and longest race of the year. A total cash purse of nearly $30,000 is up for grabs. The Figure 8’s and Street Stocks will also be in action next Saturday.

The Memorial race is to pay tribute to Stan Yee Sr., who passed away May 18. A fixture at Flat Rock for over 40 years, Stan’s famed #33’s toured the Midwest and South in the 1960’s and 1970’s in a winning way with a host of drivers at the wheel. Stan’s son, Stan Jr., is a weekly racer at Flat Rock and won the 2003 track title for his father. Stan is entered for the big event and has called upon 4-time Flat Rock Late Model champ Rick Knowles to pilot his team car for the 150 lap all-green flag contest.

The race pays $2533 to the winner, with each spot ending in a 33 in tribute to the legendary car owner and builder. The Yee family and friends, along with Giles Auto Body, Sterling Printing and Graphics and Kim and Duane Copeland, have bumped the purse up by posting $333 to the Fast Qualifier, $333 to the leader of lap 33 and $333 to the leader of lap 133. The first man out will receive a $133 bonus. The Late Model purse alone tops the $22,000 mark for the longest race for the division at Flat Rock.

The pits will open at 1:30, practice is set for 3 p.m., time trials are at 5 and racing begins at 7 p.m. The front gates will open at 3.
