Trackside Tidbits by Debi Domby

Winning his first race of the season was Eric Lee. It was the 10th career Late Model win for the 2004 Flat Rock Late Model Champion. "We worked hard during the off season and made a few changes to the car ... that really seem to be helping this year. We found a setup that works good with the new tire change and runs well on the outside groove, something we were lacking last year. I would especially like to thank a new sponsor that we have this year, Dusty's Collision, and we are excited to have him on our team and are looking forward to working with him in the 08 race season. Hopefully we can keep up the momentum and continue to run strong," said the driver of the Arrow Uniform Rental, Labelle Electric, Jacks Garage, D&E Landscaping, Posen Construction, Mona Vie, Dusty's Collision, Powertran Transformers, Applied Roofing, Keller Williams Realtors, Auto/Con Corp., ET Performance, Complete Prototype Services #5.

Two veteran drivers that missed opening night were in attendance today. Chris Benson and Steve Bunge. They finished 12th and 24th respectively.

Dan Ford Jr. won his first Street Stock feature in 12 years. Of course for most of those years, he's raced in Super Late Models. His last win was August 1996. It was Ford Jr.'s 10th career win.

This week the Street Stocks' A division feature was lined up by a draw of ping-pong balls. Starting on the pole for an A main for the second time in his racing career was eighth place qualifier (which he did on old tires), Jeff Kurzyniac. He led the first 20 laps of the feature, the most a-main laps he has ever led in a race. "I spun the tires and that helped Dan Ford Jr. get around me on the restart. The car ran good all day and is coming along very well with only a handful of times on the track," said the driver of the #62.

Last week the B main was Rich Abel taking the win over Clyde McKee. This week, they reversed it. Clyde was unable to take a qualifying lap (my pit reporters tell me he got to the track just in time to run his heat).

Dennis Whisman won his 37th career Figure 8 feature.

Lousy weather (cold windy and rain during hot laps) probably kept a lot of the street stock division home Saturday night. Only 34 cars made their way to the track. It took me a while to find the last time there was less than 40 street stocks in the pits for a regular night (June 14, 1997 ... 39 cars), but the last time we had less than 34 in the pits was 14 years ago on April 23, 1994, when only 25 were in the pits.
