Southland Center Added to Flat Rock, Toledo Mall Racecar Shows

2 Double-Header Weekends Now Slated
TOLEDO OH (2-27-08) - Flat Rock and Toledo Speedways have now added the Southland Center in Taylor, MI for another race car mall show, bringing the total to 4 shopping center venues that will play host to race car displays as the tracks prepare to kick off their 2008 season schedules.

Southland officials had earlier indicated to track management that a major construction project would curtail any opportunity to host a race car show at the Taylor facility, which is just 10 miles north of Flat Rock Speedway and just º mile west of I-75. Plans called for a return to the popular mall in 2009.

"We received a call last week from the Southland office asking if we could fit a show into our plans," noted Scott Schultz, General Manager of the 2 tracks. "The remodeling project the mall had planned has been moved back, so we decided to do another double-header car show for the weekend of April 12-13 to go along with our first 2 events March 29-30."

Saturday and Sunday, March 29-30, race teams will converge on 2 separate locations for the weekend. The annual event at the Frenchtown Square Mall in Monroe, MI is set, while the Toledo cars will set up shop at the Westfield Franklin Park Shopping Center on the same weekend.

The tracks will make their second appearance at the Westland, MI Shopping Center Saturday and Sunday, April 12-13, while more cars will be on display at Southland in Taylor at the same time. These 2 shows are just 2 weeks before Flat Rock opens the doors for their opener Saturday, April 26.

Toledo's Friday night schedule is set to begin May 2. The ASA Late Models, USPRO Series and USA Modifieds will open the 2008 schedule with an event Saturday, April 12.

In addition to the race cars that will fill the mall concourses, the tracks will staff a booth at each location, complete with pocket schedules and information for mall patrons and race fans. A special drawing will be held at each shopping center for a pair of 2008 season tickets. And Slick, the track's official Mascot, will also make a visit to each of the 4 venues.

"The mall shows are a very important part of our pre-season marketing strategy," commented Ron Drager, President of ARCA and promoter/owner of Flat Rock Speedway and co-owner of Toledo with business partner Roy Mott. "The shows are a great way for both the tracks and the race teams to promote themselves and our sponsors. We always look forward to these events."

Season tickets and the $25 gift cards, good for admission to both tracks, will also be on sale during the shows.

The race car reservation forms for the mall shows are now posted on the website.
