STEP BACK IN TIME; RAY NECE ’57 FORD ON DISPLAY AT MORAN CHEVY-STAN YEE MEMORIAL 150

(Flat Rock, MI—July 20, 2016): On August 14, 1953, Flat Rock Speedway held its very first race. The history of the track is incredible; it includes a pair of NASCAR-sanctioned 500 lap races, one of which was won by Lee Petty, Richard Petty’s father.

This Saturday, July 23 at “The Rock”. The biggest race of the season hits the track, the Moran Chevrolet-Stan Yee Memorial 150. The race is leg number 5 of the 6-race Royal Truck and Trailer Late Model Gold Cup Series. And while these ground-pounding, flat-flying race cars battle for 150 laps, you can also take a step back in time with us Saturday night.

In those early days of the speedway, the 1957 Ford of Ray Nece barn-stormed the short tracks of Michigan and Ohio, both dirt and asphalt. His son, John Nece, with the help of his friends, built a replica to the car his late father ran in the Midwest.

The car, along with the ramp truck-hauler, will be on display at Flat Rock Speedway this Saturday. “Stan Yee Sr. was a great help to many racers,” noted John Nece. “Stan also helped me with my race cars many, many times. “It never fails that wherever we take the car, someone comes up to us and begins to tell a story about my Dad and seeing the car run—that’s what makes it so special,’ said John. “And to be able to bring the car to Flat Rock for the Stan Yee Memorial is a tremendous honor and privilege.”

An optional practice session is set for Friday evening, July 22 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.   The pit area will open at 3:30. DTS Drive Train Specialists will sponsor a dinner for each pit pass purchaser after Friday’s practice session.

Race day on Saturday will see the pit area opening at 1, practice begins at 3 p.m. and the front gates will also open at that time. All tickets will go sale race day at the track at 3 p.m. The track’s ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks will also be in action. Time trials begin at 5:15 and racing gets the green flag at 7 p.m.

The updated entry list and lap money sponsorship list is posted in the next race box on the Flat Rock website home page.
