STUDT SAILS TO CORRIGAN RACE FUELS 100 WIN AT FLAT ROCK

Flat Rock, MI—August 22, 2015:  Perfect weather conditions greeted a good crowd Saturday night for the re-scheduled Corrigan Race Fuels 100 at Flat Rock Speedway.  Greg Studt captured the $1000 payday for the ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks.  Harris Mechanical sponsored the Autograph and Kid’s Night promotion.  All kids to age 12 were admitted free and received a free hot dog.  Fans walked onto the track to meet the drivers prior to the race card.

Ben Harris of Harris Mechanical presented the trophies in the 7-Up Winner’s Circle festivities.  Robbie Loving won a thriller for the ARCA Praxair Figure 8’s, while James Pankow notched the Street Stock B Main win.  Dennis Whisman took the novelty Flag Pole race to cap off a great evening of action and fun.  The TKC Go-Kart Club staged a pair of exhibition races to kick off the night.

Greg Studt has won races and track titles in the ARCA Late Models, Figure 8’s and X Cars.  While Studt’s time in the DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock class has been limited over the years, Greg had never won a feature race in the division.  Studt added his name to the winner’s list with a convincing victory in the 100 lap contest, which saw just 3 yellow flags and was completed in just over 40 minutes.  Fastime Racing Engines and Parts fast qualifier Tim Moore (13.669) drew the pole for the race, in which the top 10 qualifiers drew for their starting position.  Studt drew the number 2 pill and the duo brought the field to the green flag.  Moore nosed out front for the first 8 laps, with Studt door to door with Tim for the initial laps.  Greg nosed out front on lap 9 but his lead was erased when the yellow flag flew on lap 30 for the first time, bunching the field for the double-file restart.  Greg assumed command on the green, and just 2 laps later, Rob Moore, who had moved by his brother Tim, for second spot on lap 26, pitted with a flat tire.  Rob’s crew quickly changed the tire and he rejoined the field, several laps down.

Scott Selmi, who started 10th, moved into fourth by lap 39 and began to make up some ground on now-second place runner Landon Schuster and Guy Fire.  At lap 50, the top ten running order was Studt, Schuster, Selmi, Guy Fire, Nick Shanks, Kyle Worley, Rob Randa, Ray Morneau Jr., Tim Moore and Grant Hedges.

Studt was able to build his lead as the next 43 laps went all green flag.  The #33 was strong out front, with a great battle behind Greg for fourth through tenth spots.  The lap 73 yellow again took away Greg’s lead.  On the ensuing green flag, Studt took off again but the final yellow on lap 82 waved when Steve Chartrand’s car slowed with a mechanical failure, giving Craig Lange no place to go.  A quick red flag to untangle the 2 cars again doubled up the field, giving Selmi a shot at the point.  Greg took the lead on the green and quickly built his lead in the final 18 laps to snare the big victory.  Selmi’s great run netted him second after a great battle late in the race with Shanks.  Nick moved up several spots in the final 20 laps and got to the door of Selmi for second in the closing stages and grabbed third at the finish with his very strong run.  Schuster was fourth and Worley came from his 13th starting spot to grab the fifth position.  Tim Moore, Fire, Morneau Jr., Randa and Hedges completed the top ten.  Troy Brehmer, Jimmy Little, Aaron Greathouse, Don Roberts, Chris DIovardi, Ian Jezylo, Rob Moore, Chartrand, Lange, James Hazlett and Rich Abel completed the finishing order for the 21 car field.

James Pankow sailed to the win in the 25 lap B Main contest, topping Jeffrey Kurzyniec, Wilburn Parks and Brian Moore.  Pankow’s lap of 14:572 gave him the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts B Main fast qualifier award.

The ARCA Praxair Figure 8’s staged a 30 lap feature race Saturday.  Several wild intersection shots and great battles up front highlighted the non-stop event. Robbie Loving out-dueled Jeremy Miller to win the race.  Veteran Parker Wade led the first 5 laps until Loving edged by Parker to take the lead.  Miller followed suit and got around Wade to set up a great battle for the number 1 spot.  Loving led the next 10 laps, but a great move by Miller gave him the lead.  Loving stormed right back and made a great move of his own to grab back the point.  Billy Earley and Jeremy Vanderhoof broke loose from a pack of cars and reeled in the top 2 as the laps wound down.  Loving stayed in command and nosed out Miller for the win, with Earley third and Vanderhoof fourth, with Race Loving taking fifth.  Scott Apperson, Wade, Dennis Whisman, Randy Roberts, Dennis Whisman Jr., David Katafiasz and Stephanie Bradley were next in line at the stripe.  Dennis Whisman was fifth with 2 laps to go, but his car slowed in the closing laps (at the wheel of Jacob Lee’s #13) and dropped him back at the checkered flag.  Miller and Dennis took the heat wins.  Earley set the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts quick time at 20:887.

The evening concluded with the Flag Pole race which features a tire in the middle of the front and back straights.  Each lap, the cars must go around each tire to complete a lap.  Dennis Whisman has taken a liking to the event as he zoomed to the win, dodging cars each time he circled the tires.  Race Loving, Dennis Whisman Jr., Travis Earley, Mike Miller, Randy Roberts Jr., Trina Apperson and Ray McClure trailed the winner.

Saturday, August 29 is the Heritage Newspapers Season Championships at Flat Rock Speedway.  The ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Model, Praxair Figure 8, DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock and the Street Stock B Main 2015 track champions will be determined!  The final point races of the season will provide great action and excitement for the entire evening.

The pit area opens at 2:30, practice begins at 4, time trials begin at 5:30 and racing begins at 7 p.m.  The front gates and ticket office will both open at 4.
