CRONENWETT-MOORE-STUDT OPEN FLAT ROCK WITH WINS

Flat Rock, MI—April 25, 2015:  Despite a very cool night, a nice crowd filed into Flat Rock Speedway for the Jet’s Pizza of Flat Rock Season Opener Saturday night.  Steve Cronenwett Jr., Tim Moore and Greg Studt captured the first features of 2015 and visited the 7-Up Winner’s Circle.

Cronenwett opened up defense of his 2014 title with a victory in the 50 lap ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Model main event. It was a typical opening night as numerous yellow flags slowed the action in the early stages of the race.  The 10 car inversion saw rookie Corey Duane shoot into the lead until Frankie Jiovani got by to take over the top spot.  Cronenwett charged up on the outside and got by Frankie to take command.  A 25 lap stretch of all-green flag racing ensued from laps 18-43, allowing the field to battle for position.  On the lap 43 double-file re-start, Jiovani powered his way to take the point by a nose on the outside groove, with Cronenwett tucked in low.  The lead duo made contact entering turn 3, sending Jiovani sliding up into the 3rd groove.  Frankie made a great save as the race continued on, with Cronenwett hanging on to take the lead and the win.  Angola, IN racer Craig Everage sailed up from his 9th starting spot and grabbed second, Jeff Vrsek was third, fast qualifier Justin Schroeder (11:682) overcame an early-race incident and got back to 4th, while Paul Pelletier moved up several spots in the final laps to take fifth.  Bryan Richards, Derek Wiley, Dennis Strickland, Jeff Plumb and Jiovani completed the top ten in the 19 car field.  Jiovani, Grant Hedges and rookie Guy Fire captured the heat races.

Tim Moore kicked off the new season in grand style, leading every lap en-route to victory in the 25 lap ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock feature race.  Moore was able to fend off several challengers for the win.  Nick Shanks came home second, Landon Schuster was third, Scott Selmi fourth and Rob Moore, fifth, followed by Kyle Worley, Arnold Kirsch, rookie Ray Morneau, Joe Haener and Lonnie York.  Rob Moore posted the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts quick time at 13:598 for the 19 car field.  Schuster, Aaron Greathouse and Rich Abel notched the heat race wins.  Jimmy Alvis had his throttle stick in his heat race and slammed the turn 3 wall, but walked away from the incident.

Flat Rock resident Greg Studt nosed by Jeremy Miller in the closing laps to seal the deal for his win in the 20 lap ARCA Praxair Figure 8 finale’ of the night.  Greg inched his way to the front from the 9th starting spot and zipped in and out of intersection traffic as he closed in on Miller.  A late red flag with 10 go to re-set the field, giving Studt a shot at the win as he was able to sneak by the leader to grab the checkered flag over Miller, Robbie Loving, Race Loving, Dennis Whisman, Randy Roberts, Parker Wade, Stephanie Bradley, rookie Dennis Whisman Jr. and Ethen Lambert.  Studt paced the 14 car field to grab the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts fast time award with a lap of 20:757.  Robbie Loving and rookie Jacob Lee took heat race wins, with Lee’s checkered flag his first-ever in competition.
