FLAT ROCK SPEEDWAY FINALE’ FALLS TO RAIN

FLAT ROCK SPEEDWAY FINALE’ FALLS TO RAIN

SEPTEMBER 10, 2016: A pair of steady rain showers put an abrupt end to Flat Rock Speedway’s racing season Saturday night. Practice had just begun when the rain arrived around 4:30 p.m. By 5:40, the cars were back on the track until another period of rain set in, ending the evening.

A heavy rain fell overnight, but the track staff had things ready earlier in the day.

The Great Lakes Mini Cup Cars and the Monroe News 250 lap Enduro race fell victim to the elements. Jimmy Tucker captured the 2016 Enduro crown.

Through the generosity of individuals, drivers, race teams and businesses, a total of $658 in bonus awards in the memory of Brandon Swanson had been posted for the Enduro race. With the cancellation and the completion of the season, the total amount will now be donated to the Swanson family.

Flat Rock Speedway does have several non-racing events left for the calendar year. Saturday, September 24 is the inaugural Monroe County Brewfest. Over 100 craft beers will be available for sampling, with food, fun and music planned for the event, which runs from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. You must be 21 and over to attend. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 the day of the event. To purchase tickets online, go to monroenews.yapsody.com. The event is rain or shine and will be held under tents.

Saturday, October 1 is the Racer’s Flea Market in the track pit area from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Set-up is at 8 a.m.

Sunday, October 2 is the Flat Rock Historical Society Flea Market from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free to the grounds. A 20’ x 20’ vending space is $40, and space is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Setup begins at Midnight. For additional information, please call 734-782-5220.

The final event at the track is Saturday, October 22—the date for the 2nd annual Michigan Beer Mile Run. The race is being promoted by Boogahonk Events, LLC. For registration and more information, go to www.themichiganbeermile.com. The first race is at 3 p.m.
