STUDT, TUCKER DELIVER FATHER’S DAY PRESENTS AT FLAT ROCK

Flat Rock, MI—June 18, 2016: A very warm summer evening at Flat Rock Speedway saw a pair of drivers provide an early Father’s Day present to their Dads Saturday night. Greg Studt edged out defending track champ Landon Schuster to win the 25 lap ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock feature, while Jimmy Tucker scored his first-ever win with a victory in the Monroe News 250 lap Enduro race. Rich Abel continued his winning ways with a “W” in the Street Stock B Main race. The event was the final tune-up for the Street Stocks before their biggest race of the season on July 2-the Corrigan Race Fuels Firecracker 100.

A sensational battle between Schuster and Studt capped off the caution-plagued Street Stock A Main contest. Landon took the lead from the start as he led the field to the green. Studt, starting 5th, worked his way around Tim Moore just past the lap 15 mark. Moore had worked hard on the outside lane to go for the lead. Studt bided his time, looked for an opening and got underneath Tim and set his sights on the leader. For the final 8 laps, Schuster and Studt ran door to door every lap. Greg would nose just a bit out front in the outside groove, but Landon kept in contention by running strong down low. Coming out of turn 4 on the final lap, Landon’s car got a bit sideways, slid up the track just a bit while Studt stood on the throttle and took the win by inches over Schuster. Greg’s father and car owner, Bob, is a 14-time Flat Rock champion and celebrated with Greg in the 7-Up Winner’s Circle. Tim Moore was third, Guy Fire fourth and Rob Moore fifth, followed by Ray Morneau Jr., Nick Shanks, Randy Cornett, James Pankow and Craig Lange.

Rich Abel grabbed the lead from defending B Main champ Jeffrey Kurzyniec and sped to his 4th win of the year in the 15 lap B Main feature race. Brandon Randa, in his first start of the season, made a late race charge to take second, Don Roberts was third, Ian Jezylo fourth and Stephanie Bradley fifth. Justin Rodriguez, Adam Jezylo, Kurzyniec, Greg Critchfield and Brian Moore completed the top ten.

15 year old Windsor, Ontario driver Ray Morneau Jr. set the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts fast time for the 31 car field at 13:524. Brandon Randa led the B field at 14:279. Schuster, Shanks, Caleb Barron, Bradley and Ian Jezylo took the heat wins. Caleb’s win was his first-ever checkered flag for the rookie.

With his father also in the 28 car field, Jimmy Tucker held off a late-race bid by May race winner Troy Brehmer to score his first-ever victory in the Monroe News 250 lap Enduro race. A great 3-car battle for much of the caution-free race saw Ed Case, defending champ Robb Remick and Tucker trade the lead back and forth. Jimmy took solid control of the race just past the lap 150 mark and worked his way through traffic flawlessly. As the laps wound down, heavy traffic was about to come into play. With 3 and sometimes 4-wide battles in front of him, Tucker tip-toed through the battle. With 25 laps to go, Brehmer, who was lurking in the top 5 for much of the race, began to make his move to the front. With 5 to go, Tucker went all the way to the wall in turn 4 to get around lapped traffic and Brehmer was now within striking distance. Jimmy held on and took his big win just 2 cars lengths in front of Brehmer at the checkered flag, setting up another father-son celebration for Jimmy and his Dad, Jim Gullett. Remick came home third, Dave Bennett was fourth and Derrick Sheppard fifth, followed by Kyle Metdepenningen, Case, Rick Bennett, Tom LaFollette and Canadian David Rumble. Brehmer was the fast qualifier at 14:360.

A field of 30 cars is expected for Saturday, June 25 at Flat Rock Speedway as the 5th Annual Diamond Racing Products Joy Fair Memorial 100 takes place.
