Flat Rock Speedway

Flat Rock, MI—May 2, 2015:  Don’t count out the old guys!  Arnold “Tricknology” Kirsch fell back, then used the outside lane to move up to the front again and grabbed his first win in over 20 years as he captured the 40 lap ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock feature Saturday night at Flat Rock Speedway.  Jeremy Vanderhoof knocked down the win in the 30 lap ARCA Praxair Figure 8 contest, while the duo of Kevin Stepinski/Erich Heuschele took the Figure 8 Train win on Scout Night.

Another “old guy”, Steve Cronenwett Sr., jumped behind the wheel of a Street Stock for the first time in many years and led the first 15 laps of the 40 lap main, which went without a yellow flag.  Kirsch flirted with a challenge for the lead early, then fell back as Tim Moore and Landon Schuster moved up to take on the leader.  Moore took the point, getting under Cronenwett Sr. on lap 16 as the pack battled back and forth.  Kirsch began to look to the high side and got by Moore on lap 23 to take the lead.  With 7 laps to go, the leaders encountered lapped traffic, giving Moore one more shot at the win.  Kirsch was able to hang on for the big victory over Moore, Schuster, Scott Selmi, Cronenwett Sr., Rob Moore, Nick Shanks, Kyle Worley, Craig Lange and Joe Haener.

Tim Moore set the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts fast time at 13:632 for the 21 car field.  Heat race winners were Schuster, Kyle Worley and Rich Abel.

A great 18 car field took the green flag for the 30 lap Figure 8 feature, with Jeremy Vanderhoof in control the entire distance to notch the victory.  On the start, Fastime Racing Engines and Parts fast qualifier Greg Studt (20:778) and Robbie Loving tangled, dropping both back in the pack.  The race went all green, giving Jeremy the chance to build up a 10 car lead.  Billy Earley whittled the gap down to about 5 cars, but Vanderhoof stayed in command to the checkered flag.  Earley was second, Dennis Whisman came from 8^th spot to third, Jeremy Miller was fourth and Studt got back to fifth.  Loving, Parker Wade, Randy Roberts, Jacob Lee and Stephanie Bradley completed the top ten.  Loving, David Katafiasz and John Lambert were the heat race winners.  Katafiasz’s win was his first-ever in his Figure 8 car.

Kevin Stepinski and Erich Heuschele took off at the green and sped to victory in the Figure 8 Train race, which features 2 cars chained together—front car with the engine, back car with the brakes.  The duo scooted away to the win over Howard Kelley Jr./Dennis Whisman Jr., Joe Vanderhoof/Jon McKenney, Trina Apperson/Stephanie Bradley, Jim Brazeau/Adam Plonski and Jeremy Vanderhoof/Scott Apperson.

Saturday, May 9 is UAW Local 3000 Night and College ID Night.  All college students will be admitted FREE with a valid college ID.  The ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Models, Praxair Figure 8’s and DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks will be in action.  The speedway will also host Racing Fan Club Night.  Race time is 7 p.m.
