REMEMBERING JOHN CATHERS—“BEER MAN JOHN”

REMEMBERING JOHN CATHERS—“BEER MAN JOHN”

Flat Rock and Toledo Speedways has lost a friend and very familiar face to fans that have visited the 2 tracks over the past 15 years.  John “The Beer Man” Cathers, 60, passed away December 20.  If you were at the track, you would surely hear John’s voice during the night!

In addition to working at the 2 tracks, John also vended at the Toledo Mud Hens in the 1970’s and 80’s and the Toledo Storm hockey games at the old Sports Arena.  Cathers also owned race horses that raced at Raceway Park in Toledo.  John was employed as a caregiver to Raymond “Dwight” Oden for 24 years.

A memorial service of remembrance will be held at the Perrysburg Alliance Church, 10401 Avenue Road, Perrysburg, OH at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, with a luncheon to follow.  The family has requested that gifts be made in memory of John to the Perrysburg Alliance Church.  Condolences may be expressed at caringcremationservices.com.

John The Beer Man was as good a beer vendor as Flat Rock and Toledo Speedway has ever seen. If the words, "Ice Cold Beer!" are familiar to you, you are remembering John. Rest In Peace, John.
