Discount Tire to support ARCA 5-race late model Gold Cup Series in 2014

(TOLEDO, Ohio - March 1, 2014) - The 5-race ARCA Late Model Gold Cup Series will carry the name of Discount Tire as the Title Sponsor for the 2014 season.  This is the initial involvement of the national tire retailer on the short track level.

“We are very, very pleased to announce the plans for the ARCA Discount Tire Gold Cup Late Model Series for the upcoming season,” noted Ron Drager, owner and promoter of both Flat Rock, MI and Toledo, OH Speedways.  “The addition of Discount Tire will allow us to continue the Gold Cup Series, establish a point fund for our teams and actively promote the races to the Southeastern Michigan and Northern Ohio markets.”

The business was founded 54 years ago in Ann Arbor, MI by Bruce T. Halle, who started Discount Tire with 6 tires, a portable air tank and a lot of determination!  Day by day, the one-man operation slowly grew into the Discount Tire of today, with 875 stores in 28 states.

Discount Tire has maintained a presence in auto racing through its sponsorship of the NASCAR Nationwide #22 from the Penske Racing stable.  Several drivers, including 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski and teammate Joey Logano, have recorded numerous victories at the wheel of the Discount tire car.

The Toledo area now has 2 stores; 5030 Monroe Street (419-475-6593), just east of Talmadge Road, and 27135 Crossroads Parkway near Fremont Pike in Rossford (419-872-7690).

Discount Tire will serve as the title sponsor of two of the Gold Cup races at Toledo on June 6 and July 11.  An extensive marketing campaign around the Discount Tire Gold Cup Series will be initiated in both markets. The Discount Tire Gold Cup champion will take home a $1000 bonus check, with $600 to second, $400 to third, $300 to fourth and $200 to the fifth place driver in the final point standings.

In addition to the Gold Cup sponsorship, the Discount Tire Classic Car Cruisin, run by the Placer’s Car Club, will take place at Toledo the first 3 Tuesdays of each month from May through September.  Discount Tire will also serve an associate sponsor of the track’s signature event, the Glass City 200.

The 5 race Series starts Saturday, May 24 at Flat Rock Speedway for the running of the Diamond Racing Products Joy Fair Memorial 100.  Toledo’s first Gold Cup event, the Discount Tire 100, is set for Friday, June 6.  Friday, July 11 is the date for the Discount Tire 100 presented by Parts Galore.  It’s back to Flat Rock Saturday, July 26 for the Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150, and the series concludes Friday, August 15 back at Toledo with the Miller Lite 100 presented by Grogan’s Towne.  The August race is a combination race with the Main Event Racing Series.

All roads lead to the season-ending Great Lakes Helicopter Glass City 200 Late Model invitational presented by Discount Tire.  The 26th edition of this season-ending classic is set for Saturday, September 20.
